I understand we are in different days and times for football, and the rules definitely favor the offensive side of the ball. Personally, I am going to have to change my expectations, I guess, and look for occasional stops and holding the other team to field goals. I miss the good old days of being able to shut down and shut out the other team.

JMHO, Aranda converted me to a bend but dont break guy because of the high powered spread offenses you have to face every now and then. It also takes time for the players to learn their role in these schemes, i.e. look at LSU first 8-9 games versus last 4. This year Ed decided he wanted an attacking defense in the mold of the Bama 11 team and just what I was afraid of happened in the first game - teams will throw the ball over your head if you dont get to the QB.

Also based on what I am seeing so far I am still a 3-4 person. I am not sold on the 4-3 conversion just yet but we are retooling every position behind the DL so maybe it will gel soon

My point here is that I always felt that Saban was a step ahead of the pack and if he feels that is the best scheme to put on the field then so be it. One other thing that is hurting Bama is they are finally getting hit by the leaving juniors - not as bad as LSU but it is there.

People are throwing more shite at them than they did at previous Alabama linebackers.

True but they have also over-reached in the name of safety and shackled the defenses by making football offensive friendly. Players are scared of being thrown out of the game for these dumb a$$ targeting penalties. I've seen some horrendous calls! You can't even tackle at full speed anymore because if an offensive player shifts at the last minute trying to avoid impact it sometimes put the defensive player in a position that looks like they are intentionally leading with the helmet. Stupid a$$ rule!!! At least reduce the penalty to 1 quarter. Don't kick the kids out of the game for what is a mistake most of the time.

He did a great job in the 15 game, but he didn't do that much in the 16 game til Bama's D ran out of gas. 16 possessions because Bama's O was so anemic for various reasons. Bama had something like 9 or 10 3 and outs, even the scoring drives were mostly just a few plays. But even in the '16 game Watson showed his mettle. Bama laid some vicious hits on him and he just shrugged 'em off; then took advantage of an empty D.

IMO, that was possibly the greatest D in history but because the O couldn't give them any relief they will hardly be remembered. ~16 drives
