Alabama defense

I understand we are in different days and times for football, and the rules definitely favor the offensive side of the ball. Personally, I am going to have to change my expectations, I guess, and look for occasional stops and holding the other team to field goals. I miss the good old days of being able to shut down and shut out the other team.

In all seriousness, this started for Alabama in that A&M game in 2013. Everyone ribbed tf out of Saban for giving up 600 yards. Just the way it is. It's like how Greg Maddux would pitch in Denver. It's damn near like a softball game. You have to be ok with 10-6 wins (in baseball). Refresh the DL. Score more than they do. If your defense is great, that should be good because those dynamic offenses have shitty defenses. Just how it is.

Alabama doesn’t need to be too concerned about their defense. Just hold the opponent under 50 and you’re good

And don't throw pick-sixes esp. two of them in the same game. Auburn should not have won that game.

Same but it looks like this is college football now. At least in our conference. Just about everyone has a high powered offense now.

Also, Georgia has got to do something with their offense. Else you end up being 2009 Nebraska or 2006-2018 LSU. That shite is no fun.

Hey viceman, we both know that the only team that could have spoiled the GOAT season was Bama in a game 2. Let's be honest

2011 Bama-6 LSU-9
2006 LSU-3 Auburn-7
1995 LSU-12 Auburn-6
Greatest defensive football games of my lifetime, in order.

Until proven otherwise, I think we're going to be playing bend but don't break defense for the foreseeable future. Offenses these days are just too skilled to shutdown completely - unless you're playing a team that is just THAT bad.

The Alabama defensive talent level from 15-17 was crazy. 3 NFL all-pro Dbs Minkah, Humphrey, Eddie Jackson. Also Tony Brown, Ronnie Harrison,Anthony Averette, and Levi Wallace.
Inside linebackers Linebackers like. Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster, Rashaan Evans, Shaun Dion Hamilton etc.
The D-line and pass rushers had ridiculous talent and depth. Ashawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Daron Payne, Quinnen Williams, Jonathan Allen, Dalvin Tomlinson,DeShawn Hand ,Ryan Anderson, Tim Williams etc.
Since 18 the Bama defense has not been as talented or deep. The injuries have hurt a lot and quite honestly Tosh and Golding might have been nice up and coming assistants, but not ready for a win now or else program.
I wouldn't expect Golding to return next year if drastic improvement isn't made.
The inside linebackers have been disappointing ever since Pruitt left.
They are fast and more athletic than ever, but lack instincts and the cerebral part of the game that previous Bama linebackers had.

I gave up a few years ago on us ever having another 2011-type defense. Don’t think we’ll ever see a defense holding opponents to 8 points per game average again. That sounds insane today and it was only 9 years ago.

People are throwing more shite at them than they did at previous Alabama linebackers.

Mac Jones throwing 78 yard tds in a 3 play drive also contributes to the other team just having the ball more. More possessions allow more scoring.

Bama's defense is good enough to win it all... It's not 2011 or 1992 level but they don't have to be.... The offense is lights out and I don't see Joe Burrow ain't coming back... The ONLY game that I see Bama potentially dropping is Georgia...

If Golding doesn't return it's because he got a head coaching job somewhere.

I have a general understanding that rules at both the NFL and college levels have been changed (and/or are being enforced) in ways that really hinder defenses.
Can anybody explain the details of how this has happened?

Agree...which makes Deshaun Watson’s performance in the two N.C. games all that much more impressive. He shredded those vaunted Saban defenses.
