lol if you think alabama had 5-stars to spare all the way back in 2009

Well, they did in this case.

quote:

Considered a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, Johnson was ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker prospect, behind only Jelani Jenkins.

Johnson enrolled in the University of Alabama, where he played for coach Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide football team from 2009 to 2012. As a true freshman in 2009, Johnson began the season as a backup, but soon had to step in for the injured Dont'a Hightower.

It’s more about the fans not letting that go. Not Colt’s injury.

Having many, many many Longhorns as friends and family members, I have listened to many, many post-mortems on the Mack Brown regime.

Based on that line of thinking, Bama did not break anything. The Texas loss was just another symptom of the inner weakness of the Mack Brown regime per everyone. He ran pampering, country club program and his players never overachieved with the big exception of Vince Young.

Colt's dad running to the locker room and him sitting out the game was no different than Chris Simms puling himself from the 2001 Big 12 title loss to the Buffs because of a finger injury (and tons of interceptions). Cedric Benson (God rest his soul) broke out in tears on draft night because he didn't want to play for the Bears. The Sooners would roll them to the tune of 50 point drubbings despite not much of a talent gap between the two teams.

That is the crazy thing . . . Texas had a stellar 10 year run but it seemed like an under-achievement given the extreme talent on those Longhorn squads. I do think they should have won more IMO. I would remember them barely crap-arse Iowa State squads despite being loaded with future NFL players an d my cousins all melting down.

Oh well . . .then they went and got Charlie Strong and here we are.

I do think Colt's injury is legit bc I don't think he'd start every game for 4 years just to tap out in his last game, but it's not like it's the first time he's ever been injured. Truth is, he was a good qb just not a guy that can take punishment. A career NFL backup, which he's still making a living out of ha

Sip is a tea sipper. Years ago the wealthy Texans who could not either afford SMU or could not get into SMU sent their kids to Austin. Texas A&M was 99% all male, all military. The sissy boys went to Texas University (That was its official name back then.) Majors were either farming or engineering.

Poor people could go to college and have their education paid for by the military.

They had a relationship with Texas Women's University and both schools had regular functions together. There were a lot of marriages between TWU and Texas A&M.

The Texas University people acted like they were rich and thus sipped tea. aka acted like they were rich as SMU people.

One of the funniest signs I saw in the stands at a Texas University/SMU game back in the old SWC days. In the SMU study body side that had a huge sign the said "Our maids went to Texas. " Thus explains the Texas University inferiority feelings.

In those days under Darrell Royal, (and no limit on scholarships). Royal offered just about anyone who played Texas high school football a football scholarship.

Your choice of a state school was to take the Royal scholarship or go to A&M where you had to be in the Corp of Cadets.

In the early 60's women were admitted and today Texas A&M is the largest university in the state.

Thanks for asking

Y'all really do live your own worlds, don't you

I love how in y'all's minds Darrell Royal was this vilified cheater that "gave a scholarship to every player that played high school football in Texas". First, I think my dad would remember being offered a scholarship in '72 rather than walking on the team to be Earl Campbell's tackle dummy, but I'm sure you remember more about his time there than him from reading Texags.

Also, only Texas offered lots of scholarships too, right? No other school in the country did that?

But Aggies never lie, cheat or steal.

I mean SURELY they would never break the rules

Aside from a couple of 1960s football programs that say "Texas U.", I don't think anyone referred to it as that other than Aggies due to inferiority complex. Which, I would have too if my school were intended to be a subservient branch of The University of Texas

You're not THE University of Texas, you're just another "texas university".

Good lowered Texas fans are still holding onto this. All you have to do is look how Colt did against the other two top 10 defenses (Oklahoma & Nebraska) he played that year and you get a preview of how he would have played against Alabama that night.

Sure, or you could look at what he did to most of the ranked teams any year he played them. Or what he did to ranked Ok State on the road... you know, to get invited to the Heisman presentation?

He was 100% completion and led them straight to the redzone, btw. So I'd say he was holding his own while he was in.

If Garrett freaking Gilbert could've tossed a couple TDs, no question Colt could've.

LOL. Colt threw two passes for 9 yards . In 2009 Texas played three ranked teams before the Rose Bowl: Nebraska, Oklahoma & Oklahoma State. Nebraska and Oklahoma were top 10 defenses and Colt blew against them. Oklahoma State was the 31st ranked defense. Garret Gilbert threw four interceptions and completed less than 40% of his passes but sure base your judgement on his day on two passes he did complete

Most of the A&M posters here were accepted into both and chose A&M.

All t.u. required to accept me was filling out a one page application. A&M made me fill out an entire packet and write an essay explaining why I wanted to go to A&M.

A&M actually made me work for it. t.u. rubber-stamped it. Ultimately it came down to the fact that I didn't want to live in downtown Austin for 4 years.

Also, while I was in school, A&M was top 50 in the U.S. News Rankings while t.u. wasn't.

You're basing your judgment on teams not named Alabama that Colt didn't have a month to prepare for...

And correct, Colt had completed 100% of his passes up to that point

There is not one soul that got accepted into The University of Texas at Austin that couldn't also garner admission to Texas A&M.

There are countless students at A&M that could not get into Texas.

But he's an aggie, so math's not really his thing, or just basic logic, so we shouldn't be too hard on him.

Actual data.

Texas Monthly even did a feature in full blown panic mode about it.
