The entire SEC should be committed to, and stay committed to, the American sport of Baseball. Great hire.

I don't know about young,

Their second best player after Pinckney, Colby Shelton, was a true freshman and hit 25 HRs. Pinckney and a couple of super seniors are really the only guys who are 100% gone. Most of their upper classmen still have eligibility left and aren't likely to get drafted.

Congrats but is winning the Big 10 much of an accomplishment?

no because they were maybe the biggest fraud in college baseball this year aside from maybe Clemson

Good hire.

Baseball used to be something only a handful of SEC schools invested in. That has changed in the past several years with Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and Kentucky showing they are capable of something. College baseball will always have a niche following, but I hope its popularity continues to increase.

The interim HC I'm sure is also going to get rewarded with a good job elsewhere! What that guy did is borderline miraculous!

I don't know about young, they were a veteran team this season. SOG would have a better idea, but I would think Alabama loses 7 of its top 8 hitters.

Jarvis, Williamson, Johnson, Pink, Seidl, Tamez are all gone (we assume - they all went through senior day) (Tamez, Jarvis, Pink all have another year if they want it). Definitely a big chunk of our lineup. Guscette, Rose and of course Shelton are back, along with some guys who played in spots (Eblin, Hodo) and some former highly ranked guys who haven't gotten on the field much so far (Hayslip, J. West).

We lose McNairy and McMillan from the staff, but we return the highest ceiling arms on the roster (Holman, Hess, Banks, Davis, Woods, Quick) as well as some other guys who threw well this year (Furtado, Moza). The pitching this year was somewhat miraculous considering we lost our entire presumed weekend rotation before SEC play : a senior with tons of appearances (Jean), a top 50 pick (Hitt) and one of our better freshman starters (Hess) to injury and barely got anything out of any of them.

So we'll have work to do with the lineup, but the staff has a chance to be really special next year. Very curious to see if anybody follows Vaughn from Maryland to plug some of the lineup holes.

He’s actually staying on staff as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

I'd be willing to bet this hire will work out

At the very least it seems to have a pretty high floor, I think. Which is really all we want - a team that competes year in and year out and has a team every 3-4 years that is a Top 10 quality team.

Happy with it, but in this league you can put together a good roster and program and be a .500 league record program over a 4-5 year period.

We've also got a really good, deep class coming in next year that - fingers crossed - looks to be the type that might not get raided too badly by the draft. Eldridge is a Top 25 player who we could lose, but some other guys appear to be in the "not toolsy enough to be drafted but will be really good college player" class.

What is Alabama doing with the interim coach? Seemed like he did a much better job than Bohannon.

ETA I see this was answered above

I don't think many are expecting him to win back to back SEC Championships, no.

Vanderbilt got ousted by Xavier. Clemson got ousted by Charlotte. Oklahoma State got ousted by Dallas Baptist. Auburn got ousted by Penn/USM.

Unbelievable Missouri didn't even try to talk to any of the coaches orr assistantsas soon as regionals were over, they hired a mediocre coach, and he was their top target.

Please, lindenwood, continue funneling money into your athletic programs, at least we would have 1 div 1 program who's actually trying to win, and not be welfare queens of sec.

Great to hear. Maryland's pitching was bad (#154/6 era)

Hope they bring the hitting coach. They were top 5 in HR's, slugging % and runs scored. Top 10 in doubles, on base percentage and hits. 20th best batting average.

Hitting is his area. His hitting coach, Swope, is taking over as the head coach. Vaughn was Maryland's hitting coach under Szefc and then took the job. He was the author of Maryland's hitting approach, which has garnered a lot of praise. I assume he'll bring in somebody who has the same philosophy.
