if the championships we won in the 30s dont count, why do all of their wins from that time period count?

Several of the states in the south/midwest/plains that had a state university and an Ag college were regularly called by a naming convention where the University was either "State-name" or "State-name University" while the Ag school was called "State-name Aggies"

You had Kansas University and Kansas Aggies
Oklahoma University and Oklahoma Aggies
Texas University and Texas Aggies

This is the reason why The University of Oklahoma and The University of Kansas are OU and KU.

At some point Texas decided to emphasize being UT, but Aggies being Aggies we never change the way we do a lot of things that are traditional without being dragged screaming.

So we call them tu. The capitalization thing is kind of a dig. Reversing the letters is also now kind of a dig because they whine about it so much.

Saying tu is just like saying aggy, just a stupid little rivalry thing. "But but but Texas isn't your rival" Ok, go look at their forums.

We literally can't win on this one. Some A&M posters tried out "UTa" in reference to Texas a while back to differentiate from Tennessee and people still had this same "omg little brother syndrome lololol" reaction.

So frick you, it's tu.

UT = University of Tennessee
TU = Tulsa University
tu = t-sips

Okay, that's a decent explanation.

I did not know that K-State used to be the Aggies but I did know that Okie State used to be the Aggies.

Ags just don't agree the they are the "University of Texas" as if they are the chosen University for the state of Texas.

Maybe you should read the Goddamn Texas Constitution which says this. I know not all of your frickers are as dumb as our fricking Aggie governor.

quote:

SEC. 10. The Legislature shall, as soon as practicable, establish, organize and provide for the maintenance, support and direction of a university of the first class, to be located by a vote of the people of this State, and styled "The University of Texas," for the promotion of literature, and the arts and sciences, including an agricultural and mechanical department.

quote:

SEC. 13. The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, established by an act of the Legislature, passed April 17, 1871, located in the county of Brazos, is hereby made, and constituted a branch of the University of Texas, for instruction in agriculture, the mechanic arts and the natural sciences connected therewith. And the Legislature shall, at its next session, make an appropriation, not to exceed forty thousand dollars, for the construction and completion of the buildings and improvements, and for providing the furniture necessary to put said college in immediate and successful operation.

By the way, this was written in 1876. A&M is indeed an older institution, but the writers of the Constitution did not recognize it as anything other than an Ag school - and that is at the heart of the issue.

These 3 lines of dialog from the Godfather explain it better than anything else. Guess which character represents A&M?

quote:

Fredo Corleone: I'm your older brother, Mike, and I was stepped over!
Michael Corleone: That's the way Pop wanted it.
Fredo Corleone: It ain't the way I wanted it! I can handle things! I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect!

Yeah, technically, Texas A&M is a branch of UT. They are funded from the same pool of money and created by the same law.

Then how are we 7 years older? By that line of thinking, they would be a branch of us...
