If charged a timeout - why the fine?
Posted on 10/21/25 at 2:58 pm to AGGIES
timeout is cause the injury happened/was faked after the ball was already spotted. Separate rule

because it is SEC policy
quote:
Consistent with SEC policy, when the National Coordinator determines a feigned injury has occurred, the SEC is issuing a reprimand to Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and assessing a financial penalty of $50,000 for a feigned injury violation.

It wasn't free, even in real time.

It’s bullshite. I was at the game, watching close to A&M bench, and it was clear as hell that Chapelle was not pretending. He was hurt.
I know the video doesn’t back me up, but I’m telling you that he looked hurt. I was close.

Must be in the rules, idk. But the referee announced it in game along with the commentators.

A timeout is not worth $50k. These are separate rules. And the $50k is seemingly being assessed for the very first time to any team. Let's see how many other offenders get charged.

excellent point
basically, they gained nothing at all
honestly, I think just about every team has been guilty of this at some point though some schools were far more obvious about it
difference now is the rules and penalties are much harsher

I am fine with A&M getting fined for this.
However, where is Kirby Smart’s fine for faking a timeout? “Oh just kidding I was just clapping with the tips of my fingers into the palm of my hand in the shape of a T. That’s how I always clap”. No fine there.
Did the officials in the OU / Auburn game get fined or suspended for blowing a game ending call on a play that violated the rules? Nope.
If we are going to start fining coaches, let’s fine for some of this other bush league garbage that goes on every week. The SEC talking about integrity of the game is a complete joke.

I’m sure I’ll be downvoted to Bolivia, but I’m not lying. I was close enough to see Chapelle’s face on the sideline, and, if he was faking, he faked all the way walking past where I was sitting, I think to the medical tent.
For what it’s worth, A&M issued a statement saying that while that respect the decision, it’s not true that the player faked an injury, nor that he was instructed to do so.
But now all the sudden all of yall have complete confidence in SEC officials.

With all the cameras… should be easy to see whether coaches instructed a player to go to the ground

i dont think its so much that, as it is EVERYONE just being sick and tired of it. Even the ags (myself included) are okay with the fine if it sends a message.

Every team does this but most aren't stupid enough to get caught

In related news, since allowing holding on every play he’s in hasn’t worked, SEC has decided to break the knee caps of Cashius Howell in order to give Temu Manning a fighting chance at the end of next month.

Texas A&M does not have the record of several other SEC teams in faking injuries.
Layne is a master at it.
If you ever played you know you can be standing fine and a cramp suddenly hits you.
Aggies were charged a time out so that is enough consequence either way.
Stankey is being a bitch because his beloved longhorns are sucking. Setting up to suspend Elko for the game in Austin.
