I've really been impressed with what Butch Jones has done in his limited time in Knoxville. Same goes for Stoops at UK. They've both been able to excite their fanbases and significantly improve recruiting.

Right after the hires were made...

1. Bielema
2. Malzahn
3. Jones
4. Stoops

As of today...

1. Bielema - Still the best resume, and put together a solid staff. 2014 recruiting has started out slow, but he finished 2013 very strong.
2. Jones - He's started out 2014 very strong, keeping talent in-state, and dedicated to building a strong relationship with the fanbase (never turns down an interview).
3. Malzahn - hired a good DC, and brought in some strong recruiters. Held things together with the 2013 class, and has a solid class started for 2014
4. Stoops - Love the OC Neil Brown hire. He's recruiting Ohio very strong. Huge spring game crowd shows the fanbase is excited.

what are everyone's thoughts?

What's holding UK back from selling Ohio kids on the SEC?

If they could pull that off they might be the new USC

nothing... stoops is a youngstown product, and proximity combined with the SEC name makes it an easy sell. Will be interesting to see what tuberville does an cincy... but UK has a lot to offer ohio prospects.

I don't know if everyone got to.see spring games for everyone so it may not be a very fair opinion.

Right both are in the B1G. Why wouldn't a good recruit want to play in a much better league while still being close to home.

Ohio has the best talent around UK by far. They should be getting some of that action.

Really way too soon to tell.

Bielema is the most proven, but there are some questions about how he will adjust to the SEC and whether his style/personality fits.

Malzahn and Jones have done as good as can be expected to this point, but wins are what matter at these programs and no one can really know if they will get it done.

Stoops has the hardest job, but also lowest bar of the bunch. If he gets UK to Vandy level then he will have far out-shined the other hires IMO.

The thing is, much like Florida, once those two teams have their pick of the litter there's still a ton of talent left over.

What's kept UK from recruiting Ohio was UK not putting anyone on staff with inroads there. Stoops and Co. have plenty since they've all sans maybe Brown and a couple of the FSU guys have spent significant time in Ohio.

Jones
Stoops
Gus
Bret

As for Stoops recruiting in Ohio, he has been. He has been in Cleveland a lot, but going after the kids that are just below the OSU+UM level. The MSU, and Purdue type recruits.

I think all four have done as well as the fanbases could have hoped. They've kept their noses to the grindstone, focused on hiring excellent support staff, good recruiting and trying to get better. Most importantly, not much outside distractions minus the twitter fiasco.

As said though, Stoops is recruiting Ohio. Majority of our commits for 2014 right now are from Ohio.

You really think there are many recruits that would pick Kentucky over Ohio State based on wanting to play in a tougher conference?

Same reason it didn't work out for Bear Bryant; Kentucky Basketball is King.

Can we include coordinators in the new hires as well?

We've snagged a couple from Ohio State that were looking for immediate PT and wanted to play in the SEC.

I'm still not ready to slide Bielema down the list, but much of the hog contingency here is dissapointed in the early recruiting considering how strong they finished on a super short time table in Feb.

I heard on the radio yesterday that our head of recruiting said the coaches are 50/50 with their time on evaluating and building bridges with HS coaches.

They've got a long way to go and seem to be laying down the foundation, but still you've got to go get early commits, they way it's done now you need half of your class wrapped up by the time the fall rolls around.
