After listening and reading on the Brandon Miller fiasco, I'm just tired

Honestly, as an Alabama fan, I'm just tired. I don't know if it's the more recent generation, or the upbringing, or possibly the cost of success, but I am exhausted at these stories being all too common.

I miss hearing things like Mark Ingram's emotional speech upon winning the Heisman. Like Tua's $300k scholarship fund for his old high school. Mac Jones donating to toy drives. Dalvin Tomlinson being a face for cancer awareness after losing his father to it. Jonathan Allen donating meals and money to families and charities. Bradley Bozeman starting anti-bullying organizations and visiting over 11,000 kids.

I admit to being the first to engage in that knee-jerk reaction of, "Oh come on, he's got to be a good kid, right? There must be some valid explanation, right?"

And maybe Brandon Miller is, possibly, a good kid who did an incredibly stupid thing.

It doesn't matter, because if all he did was something stupid, he won't go to prison - but he shouldn't play anymore. If the NBA is willing to deal with that level of poor judgement, fine. Whatever.

At the VERY LEAST Nate Oats should have benched him while it was being investigated, and been up front about everything. No one involved is a minor - there was no reason it had to be kept private.

In regards to Nate Oats, I can't say that I magically know the "right" way to handle this, but I know his was definitely the "wrong" way. Very much the wrong way. His whole handling of this is inept verging on borderline mentally handicapped.

Maybe this makes some folks angry, but whatever. If he benches him and it ruins the season, or we don't go as deep, fine. So be it. Winning is great, but I am weary of reading or hearing about these horrible things occurring regardless if the reason was horrible judgment or murderous intent. Just be good representatives of the school - is that so hard to ask?

I'm just so, so fricking tired.

Just shut up no one is gonna read all that when you’re probably defending your scum AD/coach/player.

Decades ago, colleges started letting kids get a free ride to campus because they were athletes. Character was no longer consider, neither were grades. The result has been incidents like this at many schools.

It’s become an exercise in PR management for the universities and the victims rarely get justice. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It was probably the best take by a Bama fan so far.

He’s talking about benching someone who should’ve been kicked off the team weeks ago.

The right way to handle it by DA is gather all evidence and send it to the grand jury

Oats should have suspended him pending investigation and grand jury decision. If no evidence to indict, let him play.

The way it was handled just appears to be coverup and is terrible PR.

Ask this, if Miller was a bench rider would he be defended like this? No, they’d have suspended him in a heartbeat to avoid bad PR

Sometimes you just have to take a few days away. Or a few weeks. A few months even.

I know it. I had a few scuffles back in my day and never once did I think that it would end up in a hospital trip/death, or that the person I was fighting had an intent to kill me. You got it out of your system, it was over, and you moved on. No reason to mix it up with anyone today unless your wellbeing or vulnerable others are at risk.

Much respect, I knew the more intelligent Bama fans would not condone Miller’s actions and the subsequent handling by Oats and the school.
