I've been waiting for a writer -- any writer -- to spell out the truth in a rather short and concise manner about how Texas threw its weight around to corrupt the old SWC and the Big 12 Conference. Now, they want to do the same to the grandest athletic conference of them all, the SEC.
Charles Allen Wright is no longer alive to facilitate this.

Good summary. Most youngsters don’t understand this is how it happened.

Games between Arky-Texas and LSU-Texas will heat up very fast
Hogs and LSU will start siding with Bama fans as southern compadres

I spent some time with DeLoss Dodds (the Texas athletic director) and he really wanted to join the conference.
DeLoss Dodds might have. Bill Powers and the academic side wanted to join the PAC 10.

Can I ask what Texas has done in realignment outside of staying in a watered down Big 12 for 15 years and now moving to the SEC?
It's a bit confusing as I don't think they have done much
Are you asking what success they have had?
They were last nationally relevant, before this past year, when Alabama beat them in the 2009 title game.
Are you asking what things they did to harm the Big 12?
That's spelled out in the article.

I don't blame the Texas Athletic Department and Trustees all that much. The blame rests solely on a few overtly craven and bumbling conference operators like Steve Hatchell and Dan Beebe and also mouth-breathing media execs that massively overvalued and overpriced the Texas brand.
Texas football was on its arse for more than a decade when the Big 12 merger took place. The school should not have had any leverage at all but the twin boobs of Hatchell and Beebe upended pretty much everything trying to court the school for unknown reasons.
Then the dolts at ESPN came and paid way too high a price for the bag of magic beans that was Texas sports, producing the stilborn atrocity that was the Longhorn network that futher tore things to shreds.
In each case, the Texas decision makers are right for taking the money. They were probably laughing their asses off in each case wondering when the Big 12 or ESPN would wake up and realize their mistakes.

Ultimately, Missouri is the school that doesn't belong..

They have t-shirts depicting the sacking of Lawrence during the Civil War with the caption "SCOREBOARD". That fits perfectly in the SEC.

In fact, it seriously considered joining the Pac-12 Conference in 2010 because of its supposed academic and cultural superiority. But despite its aloofness, Texas has a shady past.
This actually understates the reality. Texas had already worked a deal with the PAC 12. They actually thought they were too good for the SEC, and that A&M and OU and Ok St would just do as they were told and follow them to the new PAC 16. Chip Brown, the mouthpiece of their AD at the time, actually reported it as a done deal. The ONLY reason is didn't happen is because A&M said no. My biggest beef with OU is that they have always been too much of a pussy to stand up to uta.

Taking it a step further: The PAC 10 commissioner, Larry Scott, handed Bowen Loftin the contract to sign and President Loftin basically said, "What the frick is this?" Bill Byrne attempting to agree to it without talking to Loftin, Sharp, or the Board of Regents is why he was fired as AD.

The SEC wanted Texas also.. were they stupid also? Texas is valuable even if they go 6-6 every year. People like to watch Texas lose.

You couldn't be more wrong. This is one of the best decisions ESPN ever made.
Instead of letting Texas go to the PAC 16 and causing complete disruption across the board, ESPN only had to pay Texas $15 million per year to stabilize the college football landscape, which was way cheaper than the $200 million+ they would have had to pay for a PAC 16 contract..
In addition, they bought control of Texas for 20 years, which would allow them to move Texas on the chess board to wherever they wanted..
And as a side effect.. the LHN destroyed the PAC..
And to this day.. people just think ESPN was stupid, and they blame Texas for all of it(see article in OP), when in reality, ESPN was the bad guy all along..
The LHN was a poison pill, and whoever thought of it was a fricking genius..

Where do you think that Oklahoma should have stood up to Texas? Where were they wronged?

Pompous texass will again try their powerplay this time on the SEC. It's only a matter of time. They have a pattern. It will definitely happen.
