I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, I'll continue to believe that Nick Saban is a once in a generation coach who no one will match.

I hate to, but I have to agree with you...after Bear and up until Saban, we had one very good coach, Stallings, in between many mediocre ones. Similar to how y'all caught lightning in a bottle with a once in a generation QB in Cam Newton, we did the same with Saban...we were just blessed that our once in a generation pick-up was with us more than one year...

Don't know how long the ride will last, but I'm gonna enjoy it for as long as it does...

It would be interesting if someone could find the final rankings of the years that Notre Dame won those titles because I think a lot of those teams were Navy Training schools e.g., and other teams of the same ilk. At one time Coach Bryant coached something like the Maryland Naval Flight school.

In the post WWII era, and prior to Steve Spurrier, only Alabama and Tennessee had done anything like that consistently.

These teams have a realistic shot at doing it because of their geography, history, and athletic culture: Florida, LSU, Tennessee, and UGA. aTm might, but they are Auburn-like in their obsession over the fortunes of another team in their state.

If Kirby is worth anything could be UGA. They have loaded up on front 7 players the last couple of years and have the #1 QB coming in. If he can parlay that into a fast start and get some momentum going they might finally knock the lid off the program which has unlimited potential.

Hopefully none of that happens though but a dynamic coach at UGA would be pretty tough to beat.

Sans the 80s, Alabama has won a national championship in every decade since the black kids were allowed to play. We aren't going anywhere

This is an anomaly - when Saban goes, it's all even among the top 8

What level is that?

Bama is already at the top of the mountain in college football.

Seems logical that it would go back to how it was previously.

Except for the Bama being on probation with a first time coach and multiple scandals. That was obviously an anomalous situation

Truth.

So, where are they now?

TennUHsee has THE OFFSEASON GUY. THE OFS GUY has a lot of potential but has remained the Bachelor and just cannot find the right girl to dance with. It is a hyped penny stock. A pyramid scheme. Looks good for a while, but the house of cards tumble. Sell to some sucker just before the season starts and you will come out ahead.

UGA has the guy who coached under THE GUY for many years. He is the guy who follows THE Guy at UGA. History tells us that the guy who follows THE Guy at a school is just another guy. Sell until UGA gets the guy who follows the guy who followed THE Guy.

Florida has the guy after the guy that followed THE guy. So, they are in position for the the guy after the guy who followed THE guy to become THE Guy. It is a good buy because the payoff potential is great. The risk is a little higher because of the unknown.

LSU has THE Almost Guy now. It could go either way. THE Almost Guy could win another one and start a good run provided THE GUY doesn't stay around much longer. I suspect THE Almost Guy will have more almost titles and be sent on his way. So, sell LSU. Too risky.

Alabama is on top with THE GUY and I expect Saban to stay on long enough to have a chance to win more titles than the Bear. If you are on that doorstep, you have to knock on the door and hope it opens. It is a push because it is hard to imagine the stock going higher. But, Bama is the Google of the market, so unless the cataclysmic event occurs, it is a good stable investment.

ATM has what they thought would be THE Guy. But, he is just another guy, it appears. Without a jack rabbit behind center, he is just a guy. Sell.

Will another school be able to consistently win like Saban's Alabama?

No.

Most likely, we'll go through a 5-10 year period with a number of "very good" coaches trading SEC titles until one of the Big 6 hires the next Spurrier or Saban type.

well in that period you've just so happened to have 2 of the top 5 college coaches of all time.

There is no divine right for you to have that.

This is true and any Bama fan expecting to continue a Sabanesque run isn't being realistic.

On the other hand, Gene Stallings averaged 10 wins a year over 7 seasons when the regular season was 11 games and had a real shot at a couple more titles (damn you Spurrier). That's a level Bama could and should expect to sustain.
