Think about what you're saying:

Do you honestly think every other SEC West coach was able to beat LSU due to the damn defense?

It's comedy that there is still debate about 3rd and Chavis.
It's real. Get some really good DBs and the Mustang can work. Just be up by more than 21 late in the 4th on D.

LSU 2013 averaged 37pts per game and 465.9 total yards per game and lead the nation in 3rd down conversion percentage.
LSU lost 3 games in the last 2 minutes that year

Fact Steel was a better hire than Chavis was for a&m and the results will prove that to be correct. It will be settled on the field and I really believe the Chavis hire for a&m was a terrible hire bc it just doesn't fit. Btw how's the recruiting going for a&m compared to LSU? I would say we hit a HR and you guys may have just down graded. Again it will be settled in short order. And we will all be here to tell you guys I told you so and likewise I'm pretty damn sure y'all will be too if it happens to not work out for LSU. I can't wait to see the results after this year.

Yep, Chavis held Alabama to 5/17 3rd down conversions in last years game... ...through the first 58 minutes. Alabama went 3/3 on 3rd down the last 2 minutes and OT. In 2012 Chavis held Alabama to 1/9 on 3rd down... ...through 58 minutes. The last two minutes Alabama had 4 consecutive 1st downs and converted 2nd down for a TD.
Another POV: LSU had no offense and horrendous play calling.
So, as with the Ole Miss game where LSU had 4 Offensive TOs and only managed 1 TD, Chavis's Defense saved that game and was the only reason we were in the ALA game.
With 1:58 to go ALA had the ball with all of their timeouts and the LSU D forced Yeldon to cough it up on the 6 yd line. LSU lost 15 yds and went 3 and out, settling for a field goal. Then despite a bonedhead KO that went out of bounds, the D again held ALA to a game tying FG to force OT. The D gets 2 stops in the last 1:58 and the O cannot score when gifted the ball by Chavis in the Red Zone. The game ends tied but was won when the KO went to LF7 and his career could have ended with Reuben Foster's ferocious targeting hit (uncalled) that sidelined him for 3 weeks.
On the first play of OT ALA pulls out all the stops and runs a HUNH, spread option 6 WR decoy play. They win when the LSU Offense attempts 4 incomplete passes with the worst passer in the league. Miles said the Defense should have scooped and scored on the fumble. LSU follows up the ALA game with a shutout by ARK.
Without Chavis's top SEC D, ranked 5th in the nation in pts allowed, 2014 could have been a whole lot uglier with losses to FLA, and Ole Miss, and very likely A&M, where controversial calls and non-calls went LSU's way and 5 trips to the Red Zone netted only 9 pts. Miles has trailed in the 4th qt of 52 of the 132 games he coached at LSU, losing 26 - all of these were SEC or Bowl Games.
In 19 years as an SEC defensive coordinator in the SEC, Chavis has been a part of 17 bowl games (6 @ LSU), 11 10-win seasons (4 @LSU and appeared in the SEC Championship Game six times (once at LSU).

What do y'all not understand?? Everyone I see says he was a great DC until the last drive or two. His D was great until it had to hold someone. If you have lots of close games be ready to lose them. That's if it doesn't take 3 years to get the correct players on the field. Good luck!!

I so can't wait to see aggy on 3rd and chavis this season.

What a strange thing to say.
It's actually anything but a fact.
That's not to say the future won't bear out your claim; but to waste time arguing it now is pointless; such opinions are subjective.

LSU losing Chavis was as big for them as losing Sabin. Everyone knows that in spite of them selling anything else. LSU had the #1 defense in the SEC last year with a horrible offense. Guarantee they won't have the #1 defense with Steele.

Chavis can't recruit yet leaves LSU with a very talented defensive roster...makes sense.
It's pretty easy to see who does the bulk of the recruiting. Try it? Btw, it wasn't Chavis.

Total D aside. I can promise you that NO LSU fan actually felt like LSU had the best D in the SEC last year. After watching the MSST, Auburn, and ND game labeling that D as the Best in the SEC only proves how shitty everyone else's D was.
