You’re trying way too hard dude. Our low rejection rate has led to record breaking freshmen classes every year for the past decade+ outside of Covid. It’s a strategy that we’ve adopted since we can’t change our admissions standards. If we can’t have control, might as well let everyone with a tuition check in and see who sticks. We’ll see whether it pays off down the line.

It means that Ole Miss offers really good scholarships to attract a percentage of out of state smart kids.

Actually it just shows that it doesn’t matter where you start… just how you end up. I will agree that scholarships and low tuition help attract out of state students, but so does most SEC schools. Since Ole Miss seems to punch above its academic weight, maybe it’s the teachers and the education?

What part was hard to understand?

Degrees are mostly a product being sold. And they keep making up as many new flavors as people will buy, while lowering the standards to make sure people are able to buy it.

Not to mention the extreme amounts of indoctrination rather than actual education.

Some professions do require it. And in some I wouldn't say it's required, but can still be helpful. Many are a complete waste.

You wrote that very few professions require a college degree.

That is an absurd statement. Have you ever met a doctor, lawyer, architect, engineer, teacher or RN who didn't have a college degree? I could name a multitude of others, not to mention how many employers require a degree for someone to be considered for hire.

I take it you don't have one?

You could also try getting some reading comprehension since I already listed most of that, and thus the reason why I said "FEW" to exempt some.

I'm a self taught programmer who regularly outperforms people with degrees.

You are obviously butthurt about not being smart enough to obtain a college degree.

And you did not write "FEW", you wrote "very few professions". My reading comprehension is fine, you should re-read what you wrote.

This part has been true for a while. Even 25 years ago, Georgia kids who couldn't get into UGA or GT were getting at least partial scholarships to Ole Miss.

And that isn't meant to be a jab at Ole Miss. They would have been accepted with HOPE or Zell scholarships to anywhere else in Georgia minus GT and UGA

I'm generally impressed with State graduates.

Ole Miss, not so much.

Yes, very few professions. You yourself could only name 3 valid ones.

If the state started an arse wiping degree, you'd be the guy who in 10 years would be telling people they are incapable of wiping their own arse without a degree.

I think you gotta be pretty stupid to believe the only way to learn things is at a school.

Which of those professions is not a valid one, in your uneducated mind?

Well, doctor was valid.

Lawyer no.

Architect you are kind of blurring it a little with engineer here. The engineering part of it, yes. The "architect" part that is artistic in nature, no.

Engineer yes.

Teacher no.

RN no.

You can open a book and read it yourself. You don't actually have to pay someone to read it and explain it to you. Well you might, but I don't.

How many covid shots did you get?

Then change the law and demand excellence instead of the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality to education. Your state isn’t overrun with students begging to get in like UT, Florida, etc. so you can try to have some form of academic rigor instead of being a diploma mill

Well, you're wrong. We literally don't have enough dorms for the freshmen alone.

My favorite thing about these threads are people who lives states away thinking they know WTF they’re talking about when it comes to state of Mississippi admissions.

Universities in Mississippi don't set admission standards - that's set by the state itself.

Thought this was common knowledge but apparently the OP doesn’t frequent this board enough as it’s been discussed at length.
