A lot of schools still list their emeritus professors to boost their dept prestige.
Auburn used to have a top 50 economics program with some very well known professors. Those profs are still listed despite me never once seeing them in the dept for any reason

No idea who that is.
Drummond family own Drummond coal, arguably the richest family in Alabama. Gary Drummond is a trustee emeritus of Alabama's board of trustees.
ETA: Almost an exact quote from a Drummond "While my grandfather puts a lot of money into Alabama's engineering school, I chose Auburn since its engineering is better." and she followed with "Alabama is close behind"

I don't see how this is a bad thing.

It's not. Everyone does this

Nothing Bad, aTm a fine institution
just wanted to add that this accounting changed really boosted the overall research dollars claimed by The aTm Campus at College Station, even though it included 6 other aTm campuses around the state
wondered if other schools added this into their total research dollars, or if they kept campuses separate?

Off season thread. > Auburn grad thread.

You act like they all spend $ research equally. The CSTX campus is 99% of the research spending.

You don't understand. A degree from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College is equivalent to a degree from Princeton.

You are correct. LINK / 4. Texas A&M 32. Vanderbilt 33. Florida -no one else in the top 50.
Well that's one subjective list. Here's a list (with no rankings) by the Carnegie Research Institute:

It's not an accounting trick. It's a reorganization. The A&M system operates a bunch of campuses and organizations around the state, and while they are able to cooperate with one another, they are mostly still separate entities from one another (i.e. A&M College Station, A&M Commerce, A&M Corpus Christi, all of which are separate universities).
One of these entities was the Health Science Center, which answered to the A&M system headquarters directly (just like the College Station campus does) up until 2013 when it was merged with the College Station campus in an effort to allow more direct collaboration between the Health Science Center and the research facilities and faculty in College Station. It is no longer a separate entity.
Yes, that means the research dollars that flow through former HSC facilities are now attributed to Texas A&M Main Campus, but that's because it's facilities are now under the stewardship of Texas A&M Main Campus, which was not the case previously.
Saying it's just an accounting trick is like saying the Exxon/Mobil merger was just an accounting trick to add Mobil's profits to Exxon's.

While AU is still ahead of UA in engineering, neither school is great. They are both just above average engineering at best.
They aren't premiere, but Auburn is a little better than whatever "above average" is, in my opinion.

It's because of the low number of graduates. Auburn's engineering program right now is a bit hard-arse, but I really like it.
They want to produce quality over quantity right now, and it leaves many, many students who can't seem to rise to the top, looking for other majors. They really try to keep it small.
I never said it was the best Engineering program in America, but they really produce some great graduates in taking this strategy...but really piss off a lot of students along the way.
We don't really beg for attention like other Engineering programs across the Country seem to do. And that is good, in my opinion.
Some programs take pride in the "high" number of Graduates that they push, but I don't think that inflating your numbers by giving a few extra "passes" to students who have not earned it is really beneficial to our society right now.
I really like keeping it low-key. And those professors will wean you out and spank that arse in a heartbeat.
But you will absolutely make bank when you get a job.

Only an idiot would joke about farming. Agriculture is huge, but it's even more important. Agribusiness is a rapidly growing sector, and is already one of the largest industries in the world. Job security is here, and a lot of farmers and land owners are in the top 10% of income earners.
