Best thing to happen in a long time
They can’t dictate the games anymore

It has actually showed that they're better than most thought.

The majority of reversals have been on balls less than 2.5” from the edge of the strike zone. That is less than the diameter of the baseball.

From what I have seen the home plate umpires in the tourney are much better at calling balls and strikes than Ranters are.

Hopefully they learn strikes and balls from it. Strike zones have been whatever the home ump wanted it to be and some times it batters half the the game to figure out what it was.

The challenges are asked for by either pitchers or catchers that are confident that the umps were wrong. With that, one would expect a very high % of overturns but the overturn % is only 57%. It seems like they already know balls and strikes.

Batters have won ABS challenges only 46% of the time.

With ABS the ump should not even call it unless the system tells him the result

You must not watch college baseball. Maybe they know they are being more closely watched but many games the strike zone is whatever the ump wants it to be .

Has ABS neutered the sec umps…or has it shown the vocal fan bases how wrong they are to always blame the umpire for losses.? Umps look to be doing pretty good considering the expanded zone ABS is using.

Need ABS for all SEC games including regular season. This has been a big improvement.

Any chance football gets an automated holding challenge process?

yes, very soon. Texas's CS department is going to supply the AI model that determines holding.

Not gonna lie, these umps have been really good. Way better than expected.

I think that has more to do with volume. During the regular season there are lots more games to ump, some umps are simply better than others. Hopefully at the tournament they only use the better ones.
