Briles knew he tried to strangle a girl to death at Boise and still accepted his transfer. Then the school botched an internal investigation into the accusation at Baylor so badly that the judge ruled it inadmissable, meaning the university is grossly incompetent or actively tried to downplay/cover up the issue. This investigation was also not reported to the NCAA until his indictment. Then, Briles allowed him to remain on the team after being indicted for rape. Players are always immediately kicked off the team after being indicted for rape/murder and the like.
Moreover, up until three weeks ago Briles and his DC were actively discussing him as a member of team and as a starter for the upcoming season. Then it comes out the accuser's athletic scholarship was reduced after she made her allegation.
It looks really, really bad and that is assuming there wasnt an active attempt to make this go away on their part which given their past is a big assumption.

Am I missing something or did a player who was suspended indefinitely and never played a down for Baylor, is going to jail and will no longer be on the team? Where's the controversy? Where's the cover up?
Yeah, you're missing a lot, not just something.
------
Baylor has been about as dirty as it comes. This can only get worse if some journo actually does their job.

If anything, people should be outraged at this judge's decision, 180 days in jail for rape? That's ridiculous, the real investigation should be the competency of this judge. The jury recommended 8 years.
Read your whole post and I HAVE to say:
You present at least one (and almost certainly 3 or 4) good argment(s).
ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DAYS for rape.
Leans ME toward stalking that high school softball babe I saw in the store the other day!
SERIOUSLY!

Check out Houston Chronicle today... good article about Baylor. Briles, and Ken Starr. Also Sherrington has a good article in Dallas Morning News. If you want to get the details of what happened, check out Texas Monthly. They are really the ones that broke this story out onto the national scene.
Evidently the woman assigned to the investigation on the University side didn't even bother to check the results of the rape kit. She was the University investigator/fact gatherer.

It has been known in Texas for years that Briles is a lying POS.
Just coming out in the national news now.
Baylor reduced the victim's athletic scholarship after she reported the rape to police.
Sam Ukwuachu is only one of the criminals Briles recruited after they were kicked off their teams such as Phil Taylor, Mike Orakpo, Darryl Stonum.
No way my son would play for that lying POS.

I know Briles is a dick. The one I don't get is Phil Bennett (A&M '78). I always thought he was a good guy.

I wished you would fall a-hole first onto an Aids dick.

was he suspended pending further investigation or was he on the team in full participation?
may seem like a small point, but it really isn't.

CNN had a good write-up here.
quote:
Chris Petersen -- now the head coach at the University of Washington -- was Boise State's head football coach when Ukwuachu was a member of the Broncos. In a statement Friday, he said he had reached out to Briles about Ukwuachu transferring.
"After Sam Ukwuachu was dismissed from the Boise State football program and expressed an interest in transferring to Baylor, I initiated a call with coach Art Briles," Petersen said in the statement. "In that conversation, I thoroughly apprised Coach Briles of the circumstances surrounding Sam's disciplinary record and dismissal."

This is just another example of the Baptist holier than thou religion. Baptists aren't supposed to drink and engage in premarital sex. Yet the Baptist religion will turn a blind eye away from a sex offender. Bring up SMU and Notre Dame sports and that board goes crazy about how those schools, and others, are sinful.

He never practiced or worked out with the team as far as I know. He literally wasn't on the team except in name.

Sure seems like the AD did everything they could do to keep him on the team - all the while they did everything they could think of to make the girl go away. Ken Starr justice. What an assworm.

This isn't about Baylor Football.
This is about a university turning a blind eye to doing the right thing and placing winning above humanity,
It's a very disconcerting story; I hope the best for the young woman involved.
So, Baylor is acting like Alabama & Briles has taken a page out of Saban's book?

Saban would not keep a guy indicted for rape in good standing on the team.
Also the SEC has a rule against accepting a transfer player previously convicted of domestic violence.

it was crap that Mett was able to gain admission at LSU
Considering the extenuating circumstances surrounding the incident, this is a bit of a reach.
I was thinking the same thing. Sure, it is fun to make fun of LSU over that situation, but at the end of the day, Mett was nothing more than an immature drunk that was playing grab arse.
He never raped or beat the shite of a a woman...
