Teams switching from a spread to a pro-style in the last 10 years have often really struggled. Any concerns?

Jimbo is respected among coaches and he should put a great staff together, so I suspect they'll figure it out. However, the stats tell a story of how difficult it will be.

We won't be world beaters next year for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see the full payoff until 2020 when he's got his guys and our schedule softens a bit. Our 2019 schedule in particular is brutal.

I do think we'll be much more competitive against good competition though, and 8 wins will be the floor instead of the ceiling.

Nope. A wet fart would be better than another year in Mazzone’s RPO offense.

I was talking about him switching us to Pro Style in 2012.

Result was 0-8 in the SEC

Dude can recruit with the best and has developed good talent in the past. Good move IMO, but time will tell

Yes. Huge concerns. But that's why we paid the man 75M.

I will also point out that the QB is usually the biggest problem, and our QB shouldn't be in a spread offense. He is the type for more of a pro style. And we have the running game to provide support if we would scheme it correctly.

OL will be a concern. WRs should be able to pick it up. And we have some quality TEs who will be sophomores/juniors.

And we may get Shea Patterson to transfer and he'll take them helm in 2 yrs.

I’ve accepted that there will be growing pains. Sumlin built a talented team but it was built to spread with no zone blocking, no under center, and nothing like what Jimbo will be doing.

mostly depends on how intelligent the qb and receivers are, and how well they are taught. jimbo seems to be a good teacher, so i won't be concerned prematurely.

There's a whole lot of work to do, that's for sure. I think Starkel is a pretty good candidate to pick up the offense at QB, but finding a fullback, changing the blocking schemes, getting receivers to make reads, etc., is probably not going to be pretty in the early going.

Frankly, one of the things I didn't like about firing Mike Sherman was going away from his pro style offense, which I thought was better suited to the SEC than Sumlin's Air Raid. So, I'm happy to see us going back in that direction, even if it causes some temporary set backs.

Fair comments. Jimbo at A&M will be interesting.

His name is Grant Gunnell. I just hope we get an OL in place by the time he gets here.

One year of growing pains and then a big jump in the second year. Just like Bama under Saban, and UGA under Smart. I think this a home run hire, and an elite coach, and elite coaches make things happen in year two. The man averages 10+ wins per year. I know that will drop in the SEC West, but he is clearly a good coach. aTm will be contending for the west in year 2.

Blocking schemes are different. It won't be a complete rebuild but they are going to have to learn a lot of new things.

Blocking schemes? We didn't really have those this year. It's like the OL went to CiCi's and had bubble gut the entire game.
