In the AP era based on AP/UPI selections:

1936 Minnesota (7-1)
1940 Minnesota (8-0)
1941 Minnesota (8-0)
1960 Minnesota (8-2)

Is 2020 Ohio State next?

Must be a B1G thing.

Make it NOT happen Alabama!!!!

"Man had a streak going 80 years ago"

Thought this was about UGA or Ole Miss for second.

The Playoff committee deserves to have this happen. I don’t care how good OSU looks —this is a completely unfair setup for every team that was overlooked and OSUs playoff opponents. Them pulling out a win would shine a huge spotlight on how fricked up the entire process is from the B1G wedging them in and basically changing their own rules to the committee accepting them (and we all know it is because of their brand recognition -exceptions like these would’ve never been made for the vast majority of teams no matter how great they looked even if they had tougher schedules with better wins).

It’s a shame for OSU’s players because I really do think they have a great team but nothing about this is right. They may win the final playoff game but it’s a bad joke to call them national champions.

Let's please not act like Ohio State wasn't going to beat Illinois, Michigan and Maryland. Those were OSU's three cancelled games, with two of them not even being their fault.

This year has been the weirdest year in CFB history but the two best teams are definitely playing for the national championship. Let the best team win.

Just like Ohio state was supposed to beat Purdue, Iowa, unranked Penn state, etc

You can’t pass over an undefeated P5 conference champion in a 4 team playoff.

Right, because inexplicably losing conference games to unranked opponents just isn't something that the mighty Buckeyes ever do.

Oh...wait...

If they beat Bama they deserve to be NC. I think Bama wins.

Not a matter of if they would have beaten those teams or not. To discount the wear and tear of 3 games on a team is just being dishonest... How many more injuries would you have at this point if you had played those three games?

Thats not necessarily the point. The point is that its 3 more games of wear and tear that osu didnt have to go through when other teams did. WHo know what happens in those 3 games. Players get nicked and maybe cant go against one of the better teams on the schedule. That may lead to a struggle or even a loss.

This year is so screwed up, nothing that happens will ever be taken seriously anyway.

You can when they play fewer games by a ton, and the rules committee changes the rules in mid season to accomodate another team. Think how Indiana feels right now.

Example...pretend that Tennessee played a full schedule and did everything the rules called for to play in the SECCG. Then another team does not meet all the criteria and by rules should not make the conference championship game...then suddenly the SEC offices come out and say, "Whoa! We are changing the rules so Florida can make the conference championship and you can't go!"

Sound fair to you?

Alabama beat Tennessee handily.

They also lost an All-American WR during that game.

Don't act like "winning and losing" are the only ways those games can impact you.

On the contrary. Winning when everything is screwed up makes the champion that much more valid. The only thing that invalidates anything would be a conference changing their own rules in the middle of the season to accommodate the team they prefer to have in the playoffs, instead of a team that did everything by the rules.

That makes no sense at all.

Don’t ever say that out loud to someone IRL.

Don't mind the downvotes, they probably think you are one of the OU trolls, who really are alters mostly. The thing is that tOSU wanted to play those games, but couldn't. Maybe it isn't fair, but it isn't their fault either. It really is the same question since the playoff started, just a 2020 twist to it. Is it 4 best teams or 4 most deserving teams? So far the committee has gone with who they thought were the 4 best teams every year.

OU had the power to stop this, just like many others. We want more influence and prestige? Win more! Play a more complete game on both sides consistently! Maybe if y'all hadn't ignored defense for an entire generation OU would have more agency in its post-season destiny.

It makes perfect sense. Do you think it was easier to win this year or harder?

Every team had the same distractions and pitfalls to navigate. The teams that made the playoffs were pretty much the teams many pundits felt would make it in the preseason.

Explain to me why it is easier and therefore invalid to win a title this year.
