the contenders are:

Florida vs Miami

So Carolina vs UNC

Ole Miss vs Memphis

Auburn vs Oregon

the "surest win" looks like Gators over Canes, does that mean Florida needs the win more?

I say no, I'm going with USCe needing a victory the most, because of how brutal their schedule is

Ole Miss being a close 2nd, as a loss to Memphis likely deflates the fan base

lastly if the question was which coach needs a win more, well, the answer is Gus...

If we lose to UNC, we may not win 3 games in 2019.

The UNC game for SC is absolutely a must win game.

So is Florida vs Miami.

So is Ole Miss vs Memphis State.

Auburn absolutely must beat Oregon .... ask Gus.

Hard to choose, but I’ll take Auburn because their schedule is so difficult.

If UF can't beat Miami, it could be a long year.

South Cackalachy should handle the cheaters of Chapel Hill.

Memphis is an anomaly mid major that has built in advantages in recruiting being in Memphis, I think Memphis wins outright.

Oregon vs Auburn is a toss up with Christabol running things in Eugene.

Matt Luke needs the Week 1 win the most.

He has two potential replacements for him on his staff. Losing to Tiger High ain't gonna sit well with the fans, and an acting AD may be trying to audition for the gig full time.

The UNC game is the biggest.

A loss to Miami alone won't put a second year coach on the hotseat and the rest of the Florida schedule is manageable enough for a bowl game.

At this point most Ole Miss fans would be happy as long as Matt Luke doesn't expose himself on the sideline. A loss only increases the temperature on his seat a little bit because it can't get much hotter.

If Auburn loses to Oregon it will be another game that gives Auburn fans reason to hate Gus... but unless they tank the rest of the way the administration will grit their teeth and keep him employed thanks to that salary.

USC, on the other hand, is walking through hell covered in gasoline this year. An opening week loss to UNC with their schedule and they are pretty well screwed.

I would say Auburn needs a big win. They have a veteran team this year and need to get off to a great start. For them to have a solid year, they need their OLine to come together, and this game will tell them how close they are to having a truly special year. Huge game for Auburn, and I think they get a 2 TD win.

I don’t think some of you appreciate what a loss to Memphis would do to Matt Luke’s chances of keeping his job. They hate losing to Memphis because of the proximity and because Memphis is a G5 school and a rival. If it were in embarrassing fashion, I’d put his chances of finishing the season at about the same as snow flurries in Vaught Hemingway for the opener.

It will be interesting to see if Diaz can coach as well as he runs his mouth. I’ll be pulling for Felipe NOT to Felipe in that one.

Boom better beat a hapless UNC team because there’s not many gimmes on the schedule and he needs all of them. Cocks should prevail.

Auburn vs Oregon is by far the easiest to me as I don’t see the Ducks being much of a factor in this game. They may keep it interesting with their QB advantage and if Gus goes full retard but Auburn’s advantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball should be overwhelming. Tigers should be easy money in this one.

I don't think so, actually.

1. Still a sizable payoff
2. He will win just enough that the payoff will make them keep him.
3. They might actually have a big year. they have a lot of ingredients. If they all come together....

Yeah, Gus is due for one of those 11 win out of nowhere seasons. I feel it coming.

or for keeping the fanbase engaged for the rest of the season

it was a toss up for me, USCe or Ole Miss needing game 1 the most, but edge to the Cocks because of the rest of their schedule

Florida - this looks like the kind of game Merlins would clown up in the past. UF really should win this game, but I don't put it past Dan to foul it up.

AU - there's a laundry list of folks waiting to fire Gus. If he loses this one, they may crank up the plane a little early.

USCar - If Brown walks back into UNC and beats USC, Muschamp's head may explode, or he may kill someone, or both.

OM - No one cares. Joke program with Hodor for a head coach.

If we're talking jobs, Mullen and Muschamp could afford the loss. South Carolina might as well put up an asterisk with a schedule like this.

Ole Miss loses and Matt Luke is gone. Probably gone regardless. Auburn loses and Gus has to pull off the miracle double over Alabama and Georgia.

The most important games of the season,to the SEC, are, in order

1. LSU v. Texas
2. Auburn v. Oregon
3. Georgia v. Notre Dame
4. aTm v. Clemson (will be #1, if Aggies win).

If the SEC gets wins in those 4, the conference will be guaranteed at least one spot in the playoffs, 2 quite possibly.

It's not Auburn. Oregon is high ranked and wouldn't hurt Auburn much. If anything a win would up expectations and put more pressure on the rest of the season.
