Is it an NCAA violation for a school or booster to post bond?
It would be a violation of Alabama ethics law for anyone to use state funds, or state controlled/managed funds, to post their bonds. In re the "booster," it all depends on how that person is classified. For example, the NCAA considers me a "representative of the University of Alabama's athletic interests," so if I posted their bond, that would be a violation. You have to be considered a rep of athletic interests for it to be a major violation, though.

The Tuscaloosa courts will accept other assets in lieu of bond. They could have offered their cars or other real property (or their parents').

'Cept Calloway. he may be worried about the lil fella.

I imagine Calloway is more worried about his "handler" Peaches. Will Peaches have to pay back his delivery money?

Are we just assuming that none of these guys parents could afford bond?

Because Bama as a program can be punished for NCAA violations, even if the player never played.

I'm pretty sure that if a booster paid for it, and that was in fact an NCAA violation, all UofA would have to do was identify it, disassociate itself from the booster, and report it to the NCAA without fault. No penalties against Alabama, unless, of course, the funds came directly from Saban's wallet.

I know what you're saying. Punishing those guilty is the main objective. Just saying, if as a whole, more were actually held accountable across the board, there may not be as much crime as there is today, as a side effect.

Ive just never bought into that theory. People who commit these type crimes just do it. They do not think about the consequences

Do you think for a second that Eddie felt he would not be dismissed from the team if he beat a guy senseless and took his credit card

Do you think people think about the last guy the died in the electric chair when they murder someone? I don't

They do it anyway.

It does not send a message. It is a very easy decision for Saban and its the decision that 99.9% of the coaches would make.

It wont help keep things from happening in the future. Unfortunately, we are not built that way

No. But all 4 bailing out within a few hours of being arrested in the middle of the night seems strange. Especially when 3 of them had somewhat significant bonds set.

The question is if their parents could afford bond why didn't they give their kids money for snacks?

Well, if they are assaulting and stealing to get an Act card and a laptop, that might be a good presumption to make.

Anyway, I am sure there is a support system in place for this type of thing if a booster helped out. Like booster gives money to relative or friend to go post bond with bondsman.

Not like this type of thing has never happened before.

Although I do remember with AU's felony 4, Dakota Mosely was the only one able to make bond. I remember specifically Goodwin sitting in jail throughout and I believe the other two as well. Bond was pretty steep for them.

I'm just speculating because I don't know NCAA rules as well as Auburn fans. (I understand that you guys have had to become experts over the last few years.)

I'll be interested to see how this whole thing plays out.

I think some people feel entitled because of their perceived perception in society. And I'm not talking specifically about determent that would have prevented these from doing what they did. Just saying in general, if actual punishments fit the crimes, there might be a decrease, even if slight. Personal accountability is almost nil in society, because people know they will get a slap on the wrist in most cases.

They have to be booked, processed, make their phone calls, get a bond set, someone has to get money to the bond company and fill out paper work, the bond company has to pay the money into the system, they have to be processed out. Usually no one on the police side of this equation rushes, so it is just interesting to see how this all happened so quickly in the middle of the night for all 4 of the accused.
