The fact that you said just play another 10 minutes shows that you don't even understand the nature of the rule. There is no clock when teams are trying to reach the target score, just a shot clock.

It really is amazing how few people here understand how this rule change works.

For the slower posters here....the game COULD last ten or more minutes after the under four minute stoppage or it COULD end a minute or two after the under four stoppage. It would just depend on how quickly the target score is reached. What it would eliminate is the constant fouling and free throw shooting that currently happens at the end of many games because there would be no advantage to fouling for the losing team.

I'm not sure if I would like the change, but I definitely understand the advantages to it.

While we aren't all as quick and sharp as a tack as you are Gus, Stone's initial post on the first page of this thread made no mention of the "under four minute stoppage" and that's the post that people are responding to.

Stonehog...
The rule I most want to be implemented is what they did in the Basketball Tournament last summer with the target score. At the end of regulation, they add 7 points to the score of whoever is ahead, and whichever team reaches that score first wins. For example, if a game ended 72-70, the target score would be 79 and whoever got 79 first would win the game.

THIS ELIMINATES THE BUZZER BEATER BECAUSE THERE IS NO BUZZER, AND IT ALSO STOPS TEAMS FROM FOULING A LOT AT THE END OF GAMES BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT TRYING TO BEAT THE CLOCK. INSTEAD OF A FOUL FEST YOU WOULD PLAY DEFENSE LIKE YOU DID FOR THE REST OF THE GAME.

IT'S FRICKING WONDERFUL BUT WILL PROBABLY NOT HAPPEN FOR A LONG TIME BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A DRASTIC CHANGE. IT WOULD MAKE FOR BETTER GAMES THOUGH, ESPECIALLY THE ENDS OF GAMES.

So I guess I am confused. So how do you go about setting the target score? Is it like volleyball, the first team to 25 wins the game?

You add 7 points to the score of whichever team is ahead at the time. If a team is winning 72-70 then the target score is 79.

"The" Basketball Tournament??? And what tournament would that be? Last summer? The Little Rock High School Summer League?

Unless you provide some link to a story, most people are just going to keep thinking that you're talking out of your arse.

So when is the time? 5 minutes to go in regulation? Or Are we still playing 40 minutes total + 7 points?

If a team is winning 68-50 , do they still play until one team reaches 75? Theoretically the team begind could outscore the other team 25-6 and come back and win the game.
Am I correct there?

The clock is eliminated at the first stoppage under 4 minutes.

Yes you're correct. That could happen.

they need to move the three point line back.
Speak for yourself. They need to move it up 10 ft for State to hit a 3

It's the future of basketball. The shot clock and three point line were controversial at one time too. People said the same thing you're saying now.

I think they should put the 3 point line where the pros have it. Most college kids are taking them from there now. Get them prepared for the next level.
Also think they should go to wooden bats in baseball.
