Calzone vs Alabama on 3rd Down

3rd & 10 - Pass for 7 yards
3rd & 4 - Pass for 11 yards (1st)
3rd & 8 - Pass for 5 yards
3rd & 8 - Pass for 14 yards (1st)

HALF (winning 24-10)

3rd & 16 - Incomplete
3rd & 10 - Incomplete
3rd & 6 - Incomplete

FINAL (A&M wins 41-38)

Game Stats on 3rd Down
4/7 for 37 yards
0 TD 0 Int
101.5 Passer Rating

Season Stats on 3rd Down
18/44 for 191 Yards
1 TD 2 Int
75.8 Passer Rating

Just unbelievable! That makes the game even more perplexing imo..

Alabama lost this game on 1st and 2nd down..

1st & 2nd Down
17/25 for 248 yards
3 TD 1 Int
190.6 Passer Rating Wow!

Once Calzada feels pressure.. he is not good. This game was no different. Alabama just couldn’t get into many 3rd & long plays on defense..

I think it's reasonable to say that during Saban's tenure, when Alabama loses, there is typically a combination of uncharacteristic mistakes and someone playing outside of themselves.

The other night this was certainly the case in both respects, and Calzada was that guy.

Kudos to A&M for forcing Alabama to make those mistakes, executing the right plays when needed, and getting the win. Much deserved in all aspects.

Here are the stats that surprised me, Bama had 0 sacks, 0 QB hurry ups, 2 pass deflections, 4 tackles for a loss

How does that even happen? We are starting 2 true freshmen on our OL, Foster and Fatheree

Calzada made some really nice throws in that game. He was in the zone.

It’s a good question.. and one I can’t answer. The Alabama game plan made no sense to me at all on offense or defense.

Calzada folds with pressure.. but he wasn’t pressured..

Obviously many compounding issues, but I think Jimbo, et al. was doing something to confuse or otherwise affect the pass rush.

At one point I'm pretty sure I saw Will Anderson in pass coverage, which is a deviously brilliant strategy of negating his particular strength and turning it into a weakness.

Alabama lost Drew Sanders this week to a hand surgery that will probably keep him out the rest of the month. They lost Chris Allen in game 1. OLB rotation went from deep to playing 3rd and 4th stringers.

My guess is Will Anderson was neutralized due to abundant attention and getting gassed due to increased snaps.

They have the Bill O’Brien curse. Not even Saban can over come it

Zone drops by Will Anderson means he's going the wrong direction. If your defense has him doing it for anything other than tailback releases in some blitz scenarios then you've failed as a DC.

Not exactly unusual for this defensive staff at this juncture though.

But didn't you see all those totally ineffective blitzes Bama ran? LOL

A good offensive line has to be better than the sum of its parts. This includes being able to adjust as a group and pass blocks between teammates.

It's clear that Foster works much better between Trainor and Robinson than he does with any other combination.

It's also clear that Kenyon Green should have been LT from the beginning of the season instead of Jahmir Johnson, who is basically the weakest of our OL. (Think Colton Prater at LT)

Same totally ineffective blitzes Alabama has run on Aggy for 4 years.

It never got noticed because Alabama's O boat-raced them but Jimbo has consistently made Pete Golding look like a mental midget.

That actually makes me feel better.. thank you.

Three horrible plays no doubt..
1) The long TD run - Bad tackling. Had a chance behind the LOS which gives Texas the ball, but we just shite the bed. That can be fixed.

2) Hail Mary - Completion. It was a nice play for them, but 2 things can go bad there.. and only 1 thing good.. but they made a nice play, but it is also lucky.

3) Hail Mary - TD Completion. It was a nice play for them, but 2 things can go bad there.. and only 1 thing good.. but they made a nice play, but it is also lucky.

That isn’t bad defense or bad planning.
OU just made the plays.. Caleb Williams is good.

So you may not understand this since you play in a dog shite conference that's tailor made for undersized Texas high school QBs to put up stats, but real football is more than just the QB.

I know you watch OU every year and you cum in your pants thinking that's what you should be doing, but good teams and good programs have more than a QB.

lol QB is by far the most important position on the field.. are you arguing otherwise?

That is true from pee wee football to the NFL.

Give Calzada credit!!

He stood in the pocket even when the pocket was getting smaller and smaller and threw some great passes! That’s the thing that stood out to me this game! Yes he had happy feet at times but compared to the other games, he looked like a seasoned QB that stayed in the pocket
