Harris is hurt and allegedly way out of shape, and we have 2 former 5 stars at DT not including Lamar Brown.

I think Harris will play a lot as a depth piece. Lane has indicated DT position is his biggest concern. Coaches lie though so it could mean that’s the strongest group

Another court ruling said this group gets an extra year of eligibility, and there were (in that group) 2 guys who played for him at an all-conference level last year, who were interested in following him to LSU.

If it were those two wanting to return to Ole Miss, I don't think there's a big controversy. If it were just former LSU guys, I don't think there's a ruckus. People are losing their minds because it's a pair of former Ole Miss guys wanting to come to LSU with Kiffin. In lots of people's opinions, they 1) shouldn't come back, and 2) should go to Ole Miss if they do. It isn't fair that they go to LSU instead.

Kelly had LSU at a 9-3/8-4 level that was likely to continue indefinitely. Wasn't going to backslide most likely, wasn't going to take that next step. LSU fired him after losing to Ole Miss, Vandy and A&M. OK, that's 11-1, 11-1, 10-2; so it's not like LSU was losing to 6-6 teams. Doesn't matter, LSU is trying to be that 11-1 team, and the fact they weren't in his 4th year here, that was enough to can him. Find a guy capable of building the team to the next level, at least back to where UGA is currently (LSU had been there). Don't act like that's unusual, why do you think Alabama hired the guy whose last game was in the CFP final?

They were initially declared out of eligibility, so they had zero opportunity to enter the last big portal.

Courts previously had ruled that players had the right to transfer to another school in order to pursue better opportunities, which brought about the portal. The conference banned having a late "open season" portal where guys could hop between conference schools, but with this extremely unique situation (such a late determination of eligibility) that screws some guys over. South Carolina (which had signed a cornerback) chose not to resign a safety who'd started 4 years for them, because they had moved on. BYU says they won't pursue their All Conference lineman with 30 starts for them, because they filled that spot.

LSU has been active in the portal and in recruiting, and had spots available. Lane chose to add guys he thought could help. They chose to sign with LSU.

Looking at academic calendar, last day to add a class at LSU (regular fall semester) was Sept 2, so the 3 guys added were within that period.
There's also a Second Fall accelerated module, deadline is Oct 23, but I don't think that's in play here.

If the SEC hadn't thrown a bitch-fit, had simply rolled with the initial decision, I think a lot more guys would have signed with schools in a timely manner, and it wouldn't be an "LSU only" issue. But since everyone else held out or backed down, they limited themselves.
