Todd Golden has been clear he doesn’t want to play the tournament at all let alone all the games to win it. Would not be surprised to see Clayton and Condon getting rest by the semifinals.

Yes, I said hottest, not best. I can’t believe you need someone to explain the difference to you.

I could birdie 4 holes in a row, but I’m still not better than Scottie Scheffler…

Do you understand now? Probably not

“Best right now,” which is what I said, and “hottest” is literally the same. You’re arguing semantics, but you grouped UGA with Duke and put them in a category over everyone else. Then tried to walk it back

I wish this to be true...but....we have played like crap our last 3 games. Horrible basketball, but you are right...we can get red hot at times. I think this is going to be a crazy exciting Basketball Tourney!

I'm glad to avoid Arky. They're hot now. MSU is a better matchup for the Tigers, but with the way they have been playing, nobody is a good matchup.

Oh, well, just the SECT anyway.

I think Kentucky wins. They're playing the best basketball at this point in time

South Carolina beat the tar out of you just one week ago. Why do you think you beat 'em this time around?

Sorry dude but those aren’t the same at all. Best right now is the team who is the favorite to win it all, #1 in the rankings, etc. Hottest is the team performing the best as of late.

you grouped UGA with Duke

I didn’t group anyone anywhere. I simply posted one of the adjusted efficiency rankings used by the committee that has Duke and UGA as the top two teams over the last couple weeks.

These efficiency rankings are posted all the time on here (mostly by Bama fans) and everyone loves them until now, since they are getting a result they don’t like.

So yes, I do have the statistical support to say that nobody in the SEC is playing better than UGA at the moment. Not sure it will mean anything for future games, but that’s the reality of the situation

If you have any more questions, please take it up with Mr. Bartholomew Torvik

We flipped into the best chance bracket. I like us to Auburn.

Because Arkansas didn't bring any level of intensity in that game.

They flipped a switch in the Vandy and State games.

That would be Georgia and Florida.

No, that would be best…period. Not “best right now”

You literally are arguing that the team that is hottest is the “best performing team as of late,” but somehow isn’t the “best right now.” Just wow

The distinction has been incredibly clear for as long sports discourse has existed. I’m convinced you’re just pretending to not understand rather than admit you misread my post.

Let me put it like this:

If an undefeated Bama football team loses back-to-back games to Top 25 teams, then plays a Kentucky team that’s won back-to-back games vs Top 25 teams, but is 4-6 on the year, Bama would still be the favorite. You’d say that Kentucky is playing better, but Bama is better right now.

The distinction is that best right now is who is more likely to win the game, while the team that is “playing best” right now is a measure of recent performance.

Best right now = Present Value
Playing best right now = Recent past value

Basically the idea is that a team regresses to their “true value”, so even though Kentucky has been playing better as of late, you’re still picking Bama, who’s proven to be the better overall team

Of course, how a team has played as of late certainly does affect how you expect them to play in their next game, but not enough for you to pick them over a team that has been clearly better over the course of the season. So in the case of UGA , if they played Auburn right now on a neutral court, they’d be double digit underdogs, but not as much as they’d be if they hadn’t won 4 in a row.

So if you ask me who the best SEC basketball team is, I’d probably say Auburn, due to their overall performance this season.

If you ask me who’s the best right now, I’d say Bama or Florida in addition to Auburn. They have been close enough to Auburn this season where recent performance makes you think they have similar chances in the SEC Tournament.

And if you asked me who’s playing the best at the moment, I would say UGA, who has the best overall résumé and efficiencies in recent performances. However, it is understood that UGA’s overall track record this season would indicate that they will not continue to perform this well, so I would not say they are the best team at the moment.

But overall none of this matters, because what I said in my original post was true: As we enter the SEC tournament, UGA is playing better than anyone in the SEC. Any other metric would tell you something similar

I'm fine with an early exit in a meaningless tournament.
We're already thin and shouldn't be risking injury to another player before March Madness

Exactly. Arkansas is a solid tournament team and may get a seed as high as 9 or 10. You need a week of rest and healing before the NCAA tourney.

That's really how lesser strength teams like USC occasionally win these conference tourneys-- they're hungry to make amends for a disappointing reg season. SC has been quite competitive in games throughout the season, even yesterday @ Tennessee and could make a run in the SEC tourney.
