Also, I love when these threads just boil down to one matchup. For example, I think it’s pretty clear that LSU would score at least 30ish on 2021 UGA, but I don’t think it’s at all clear that that LSU defense holds 2021 UGA offense in check either.

Sorry...they are just answering the question I asked but it wasn't in the topic headline. I asked which unit was better.

Bennett threw 1 pass in the 4th quarter against Michigan.
We were bleeding clock and trying to convert a third down. We may have been up 21 at the time I don't remember.

That would have been one of his 10 4th quarter pass attempts all last season against a team other than Bama.

Passes by Bennett up 15 were in the first 3 quarters. You know that.

I just noted 4 different games in which Stetson threw at least 1 pass in the 4th quarter up by 23 points or more. Which, I assume, can only be attributed to stat padding.

Bama absolutely plays hurry up.

It is how you fit 160+ more plays in a season than Georgia. 92 plays against Tennessee alone.

It is the smart move. You know that. Tennessees defense lacked depth and cracked every 2nd half.

The part I am pointing out are the 4 scores all in the 4th quarter with your starting QB driving over half of the offensive production with 7 point lead, 14 point lead, and a 21 point lead with 5 minutes remaining.
Don't fight it. It is Sabans new DNA and has led to 2 Heisman winners.

My phone is wonky.

But here is the reality.
1) those were about his entire seasons worth of 4th down passes. How many did Bryce have?

2) over the majority were 3rd and 6+.
OR, were finishing a drive that started in the 3rd quarter.

3) any passes in the 4th quarter up 20+ that turned into scoring drives were part of 7 to 10 play scoring drives.

He literally had 10 passes in the 4th quarter regular season. I guess it could always be 0? But hey, UGA is known for running a bunch of plays and flinging it to the endzone up 21 with 5 minutes remaining. It is our dna.

Seems like a good time to remind everyone that in the three game stretch of #4 UGA, #4 OU, and #3 Clemson Joe had:

1,425 yards
18 TDs
0 Turnovers

… that’s in 3 frickING GAMES… against Top 4 teams.

2 of which had Top 3 defenses.

We ran 92 plays against Tennessee because Tennessee kept giving us the ball back after 90 seconds

Tennessee's Drives
- 3 play drive, 1:31 (punt)
- 8 play drive, 1:50 (TD)
- 5 play drive, 2:18 (TD)
- 3 play drive, 1:13 (punt)
- 3 play drive, 1:35 (punt)
- 3 play drive, 0:54 (punt)
- 3 play drive, 1:35 (punt)
- 3 play drive, 0:43 (FG)
- 5 play drive, 2:24 (punt)
- 2 play drive, 0:21 (TD)
- 7 play drive, 1:40 (INT)
- 4 play drive, 0:58 (TOD)
- 5 play drive, 2:26 (punt)

Their average drive lasted 1 minute and 29 seconds for the entire game!

They had 19 minutes of total possession and ran 93 plays - 1 play every 12.6 seconds.

We had 41 minutes of total possession and ran 92 plays - 1 play every 26.4 seconds. By comparison, Georgia ran 70 plays in 33 minutes of possession vs Tennessee - 1 play every 28.0 seconds.

For uga 2019, People forget lsu only had 17 at half and didn’t get to 27 until 17 minutes left in the game.

It wasn't LSU's best offensive game for sure.

Clemson makes a good comparison. Their 2019 team was the #1 D giving up 11.5 ppg before they played LSU. UGA in 2021 gave up 10.2. LSU scored 42 on Clemson and sat on a final opportunity to add another TD at the end. Clemson also had the 4th best scoring offense in CFB.

UGA's D was certainly better overall than 2019 Clemson, but LSU had 628 yards against the 2019 top defense, 42 points and ran out the clock instead of adding another TD.

this was fun, guys. I don't really do the back and fourth thing on the SEC rant much anymore. Cheers.

2021 UGA.

2019 LSU was pretty good, but didn’t have to face the schedule that Georgia did, nor did they have even remotely as good of a defense.

Put it this way, LSU needed a Heisman performance from Burrow to win it all, UGA did it with Stetson Bennett.

Case closed.

LSU didn’t score 40 on 2019 UGA which wasn’t in the same universe as 2021 UGA.

This might make sense if Burrow was unavailable in this hypothetical

2019 only beat UGA by 27 and that team had no offense. I do think LSU wins but it’s more of a TD spread. Joe Burrow was a DUDE

There’s also the reality that 2019 LSU had increased possessions because GA was so depleted and inept offensively..

I like UGA's set up overall because 2019 was based on an elite QB (Burrow)... while UGA's success was not based on a single elite player

That sounds about right. Agree, Georgia would have scored quite a bit, too. Especially if they played earlier in the year

Their best chance to beat us would've definitely been in September. Our defense was pretty bad for stretches early on.

No one was beating us after the ole miss game. We went into god mode.

If we played like we did against Auburn or State UGA could definitely beat us.

Only because LSU stopped throwing with a big lead. It was 34-3 entering the fourth quarter.
