Fedora ignored Jeff Bower's time-tested recruiting trail for under evaluated talent across the Deep South and went after some guys that he either wasn't going to get in the first place, or were going to bust (i.e Anthony Alford).
I agree except for the fact that Alford signed with USM when Ellis Johnson had taken the job and I wouldnt label him a bust just yet - he's gonna play significant snaps this year at SS. I get your point though.

I can't even begin to describe how many fricks I don't give about Southern Miss.

Alford was heavily recruited by Fedora while he was at USM, but signed when Johnson was the coach. Alford was a bust at USM, but time will tell if he can turn it around.

So you're saying Fedora didn't recruit a 4* guy from Petal, MS, and Ellis Johnson, by divine providence (and hiring Steve Buckley) just happened to swoop in and scoop him up? Right?
Wrong. Fedora recruited Alford in 2011. Fedora resigned on December 7, 2011. Ellis Johnson was hired on December 20, 2011 (then hired Buckley to sweeten the deal). Alford committed on January 20, 2012.
Fedora hooked him, Blake Anderson rooked him, Johnson landed and cooked him.

USM will be back...as far as C-USA that is. The reason for their down fall was a coaching change after the program peaked and a the loss of key players. USM beat a Kaepernick led Nevada team in the Hawaii Bowl. USM has had a number of setbacks in recent years but they will get back to where they were on the football field. But will likely never beat an SEC team in football again.

No I'm saying he's not a bust. There's no way to tell at this point whether he's good or not. Playing on that garbage arse team isn't going to tell us anything about his ability.

Saw him at bowl practices and the kid is a freak athlete. He's going to be very very good at strong safety. Also he could play in the slot position on offense like Mackey did. He was the scout team quarterback in preparation for the bowl game and he was absolutely nuts running and throwing the ball.
He pulled up to pass one time and hit his receiver over the shoulder in stride 30 yards down the field for a touchdown. Sawyer was covering the man.
