We return a great RB with a great OL that will help carry a new QB (whoever wins the QB battle will be talented but very green). Best WR returns from last year as well.
Defense is going to take time to get it where we need to be. I think our secondary will be pretty salty but LB and DL are a big concern.
With that said, I am not as intimidated by a Muschamp led UF team breaking in a new QB the second week of the season at Kyle Field (probably at night too). We have a decent shot.
Also, I saw the way we played Arkansas last year. Up 18 at the half and ran all day long on them. Now we will have an even better OL and returning the same guy who racked up 230 yards and 3 TD on them at Kyle Field. I can see that game going either way.
I think we go 7-5 with SEC wins over OM, Mizzou, and either Pigs/Gators. Mike Sherman left Sumlin with a decent talent situation. The limiting factor will be how long it takes to adjust to a new coach and a new conference.

Speaking of people returning, do you guys have the same pitiful pass defense? Because we still have the QB that threw for 510 against y'all

Hey if we win Im not thinking its going to be due to defense. Points will be scored.

I'm pretty sure Sherman had this tattooed on his arse
But seriously, we tried this for a few years, it doesn't work.

Does Arkansas still have that same terrible rush defense??? C-Mike is still at A&M.

I swear I'm gonna get an ulcer if the games continue to be track meets. Give me the days of the proper Wrecking Crew, circa 89-93 and I will be a happy guy.
One of the things about the SEC I love is the commitment to defense. Being in our prior conference, we were constantly getting blasted by the spread. The defense did well against the run, and hopefully Sumlin and his coaches can build on that.
C Mike is a neutral if not gain for the RB spot IMO. He's an angry, violent runner and I think he will shine if given enough carries each game.

Grab the tums and enjoy the season Jobu. Wallace, Roper, Adams, Coryatt, and Glenn aren't walking through the door this year

Ha, well technically 50 50 is a toss up....i'm just saying that its a little early to count those as either W's or L's; A&M, UF and Auburn all had relatively mediocre seasons last year. Muschamp as a HC and Chizek without Cam as a HC are every bit the unknowns that Sumlin is. All 3 could end up being great, or all 3 could be busts.

Quote from a blog I read...just coincidentally fits this thread...

quote:
The chances that Kingsbury and Sumlin's offense will continue to put up the same Nintendo-like numbers they've become accustomed to are slimmer than the prospects of finding a vegan restaurant in Tuscaloosa. The overall level of talent in the SEC is simply better, and Big 12 immigrants A&M and Missouri, another pass spread team, will find themselves even lower in the talent stack than they were in their previous home. Only the most blatant of homers would expect them to keep on lighting up the scoreboard. Likewise, unless the Aggies and Tigers are able to leverage the move into massive recruiting upgrades, I have strong doubts that either program will match the overall levels of success going forward that they enjoyed in the Big 12.

The opener against Tech in Shreveport isn't a given win. Tech will keep it close

I like to think i that I usually stay somewhat realistic when it comes to predictions about my team. That being said, I think State will beat the dog shite out of A&M in Starkville, but that's just me. They will have kind of given up at that point.

I have a decent feeling about Sumlin as a hire.
I might be way off, but I feel they may go 8-4 on the hi side
6-6 on the low side.

As far as the Mizzou game; keep in mind that we've played them twice in a row in CS due to Big 12schedule oddities, and this will be year 3 in a row in CS.
They've won the last 2 sadly, but statistically, what are the odds of beating a comparable conference opponent THREE times in a row on the road?
I may be jinxing us here, but I think/hope we are just due to win that one.

La Tech:
"Prognosis
Yes, there are concerns. Yes, Tech lost its biggest 'name' player on offense (Lennon Creer) and potentially its four best players on the defensive front seven.
But they just have so many interesting pieces returning at quarterback (Colby Cameron and Nick Isham), running back (Hunter Lee), receiver (Quinton Patton, Myles White), offensive line (Stephen Warner and six other seniors), defensive tackle (Jon'al White), linebacker (Rufus Porter), and safety (Chad Boyd, Jamel Johnson). For the time being, they are still a WAC team, and a glance down the roster suggest they have higher upside, and fewer holes, than anybody else in the conference, even fellow up-and-comers Utah State and San Jose State.
I am pretty clearly all-in on Tech this year, to the point that I gave them a courtesy spot in my 2012 Top 25 back in January. Derek Dooley and Sonny Dykes have combined to create a deep, athletic, exciting roster in Ruston, and an incredibly senior-laden squad should be able to make quite a bit of noise this fall. And depending on how the realignment dominoes fall, this, in turn, could set them up nicely in the future."

It won't be easy for A&M this year. New coaching staff. New QB. New conference that is known for defense. I'd say 6-6 would be a good start for the Aggies. If the Aggies get at least eight wins, Sumlin should win the SEC Coach of the Year honors.

We need 7 for a bowl....6-6 isn't the end of the world, but it sure would be nice to get into a bowl game in year 1...

I think the high end is 7-5, low end is 4-8
