I've heard the problem with Petrino was recruiting: not hard to negatively recruit against him with his history. But Satterfield quickly turned around Louisville, suggesting he didn't leave the cupboard completely bare. Maybe it was personal/family issues that started to wear him down

Lol Auburn blew Arkansas doors off that game! Complete destruction. If Auburn and Arkansas has played 10 times you would’ve lost by double digits ever time. Triple digits on the Third Saturday of October.

Still think that was a fumble to this day. I was livid at the time.

Dude that game was nip and tuck until Bynes interceptions. Our secondary got abused during that game by a backup QB. But the good thing was nobody could stop Cam running or throwing. He ate them alive.

Sooooooo 76 wins in 9 years? 8.4 win average.
Sooooooo, 1 game better than Nutt ( on average)
So at what point will hog fans realize we are an 8 win team on average and quit acting like we should be winning 10 a year?
Let's not even pretend that's the issue. Most fans agree we're an 8/9 win program on average. We should rarely miss a bowl, and with a team loaded with seniors and the right talent, we should make an SECCG run maybe every five years or so - sometimes actually making it, We've been to Atlanta more times than any non-Big 6.
The 2006 and 2007 teams were actually special. Nutt ruined our rare chance for hardware because he got threatened, insecure, and played the good 'ol boy politics to his short term favor. Also, we didn't fire Nutt in his prime. After his 4–8 year in 2010 and 2–10 in 2011, we saw what last decade had in store for a coach of his caliber.
We're not some sleeping giant, but we're capable of actually competing when the conditions are right. And we should at least be competitive when we're not winning against teams that are only going to win 8 games that year.
Bert had an eight win ceiling, not an eight win average. I've heard a rumor that Chad once saw a football in person, but it was unconfirmed. We deserved better than Nutt the way LSU deserved better than Miles, or Georgia deserved better than Richt: They technically upheld the standard, but chinks in the armor were beginning to show, stagnation was apparent, and a downfall was likely imminent.
When you talk about a coach being fired or ran off unduly, you should be talking about Holtz or Hatfield. Not fricking Nutt.

I'll take it. Most teams aren't averaging 10 wins a year.
An 8.4 win average puts you into better bowls and more appearances in the SEC championship game.

He wasn't that bad as a recruiter, he had his own evaluations and didn't care a bout the recruiting services.
He did offer Trey Flowers when most SEC schools overlooked him.

By no means was I taking up for Nutt. I was more along the lines that petrino wasn't this all being savior. That we're a 7-8 win program and we should focus on basketball and baseball.

Why can't we just be good at all three?
Posted on 8/13/20 at 4:38 pm to dchog
Show me an SEC school that's ever been to the elite eight, college world series, and a ny6 bowl all within the same year. Shoot show me within 2 years or even 3.

Mario Fanin was a fumble machine. I was at this game. Arkansas played out of their minds. But.......they lost.

1979 Sugar Bowl, 1979 CWS runner up and 1979 Elite Eight.
Almost done it again in 1990.

Florida maybe?
ETA: CWS in 2005 and NC in both football and basketball in 2006. Pretty close.

Good find. I still contend it's next to impossible. Especially at a place like Arkansas. We're a baseball school first, basketball second and football 3rd.

Auburn 2018-2019 season. Football played in SEC championship game. Lost rematch to Georgia. Played in Peach Bowl NY6. Made to final four in basketball. Made college World Series baseball.

It isn't impossible here.
We are a football school first that has more success in other sports.

So 2 times in fifteen years from schools with massive recruiting advantages. Yeah, how about we focus on what we can be excellent at and see what happens.
Posted on 8/14/20 at 10:48 am to hawgndodge
Bc its a rule you cant be good in them all??
Why not: Lets try to be good at them ALL and see what happens?
Seems like a better plan to me

I'd rather try and be excellent at 2 things and be meh in another than just be good at anything.
That's just me though
