It’s really depressing how many small schools had a chance at a natty and it still ended up being LSU/OSU

We were beat all to hell by the end of that season. Keenan Burton was playing on two ankle sprains. It was absurd.

1990 was wild.

Georgia Tech went 11-0-1 and Colorado went 11-1 to split a national championship. Colorado played one of the toughest schedules in CFB history: They played the Big 10, Pac 10 , SEC and SWC champions in non-conference.

This was the year of the Fifth Down game as well (sorry Missouri friends)

There was a four way tie in the Big Ten. Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois and Iowa each went 6-2. Ohio State went 5-2-1!!!

Florida won the SEC, but was on probation, so Tennessee won the title by a half game over Ole Miss.

Texas won the SWC, but Houston was the highest ranked team in the conference. BYU won the WAC and had the Heisman winner in Detmer.

Five independents won 9+ games.

Take a look at the first three weeks of November:

November 3, 1990. Four top five teams were upset
#16 Georgia Tech beat #1 Virginia
#9 Colorado beat #3 Nebraska
#15 Florida beat #4 Auburn
#13 Iowa beat #5 Illinois

November 17

UCLA beat #2 Washington
#14 Texas shocked #3 Houston
Ohio State beat #6 Iowa

November 24

#18 Penn State beat #1 Notre Dame

Louisville crushed Alabama in the Fiesta Bowl.
Michigan blew out Ole Miss in the Gator Bowl
Tennessee beat Virginia 23-22 in the Sugar Bowl
Auburn beat Indiana in the peach Bowl

The Blockbuster Bowl (later Carquest Bowl) debuted with a top 10 matchup between Florida State and Penn State. Had conference realignment not started, the Blockbuster Bowl's "Were going to take the top two available teams" method would have made it a major bowl.

Oh you. It can’t be legit because Georgia never played for one. The rest of the Big 6 won it. LSU, Florida, and Bama won multiple. Don’t be mad at everyone else because you guys stuck with Mark Richt for so long.

By the end of that season, UGA and USC were the best teams in the nation.

Yep, 2007 was great and peak college football chaos and fun.

Then 2008 and on Saban and Bama rose up and put a choke hold on the sport (I know Florida won in ‘08, but that was the start of Bama’s rise). From then on the parity dwindled. Basically the sport became an arms race of super recruiting between top 6-8 teams to keep pace with Saban from then on.

Ive enjoyed the past 15 years as a Bama fan, but I have to admit no season has been as fun as a whole since 2007, and the lack of parity isnt great for the sport.

Making your friends rage quit with Steve Slaton and Pat White in NCAA 08. Talk about a legendary time in CFB.
