Watching this now, really a great forgotten game, at the time I was still pissed about our losses to both of them and the reality of Less being our coach for the long haul, so I don't think I watched much of it. Incredible effort by Auburn when it seemed like their team was held together by Band-Aids: Brandon Cox and Kenny Irons playing hurt and getting pummeled by that great Florida D and it looked like Auburn's defense was going to get gashed up the middle continuously by Tebow and Wynn with the occasional toss to Harvin.. just like Arkansas had done to them with McFadden and Jones.

17-8 Florida in the 2nd quarter, then Auburn gets a field goal before half and a blocked punt return for a TD and the place goes wild. Have to question the piped in tiger growl noise though

Tubs always pulled a big win out the hat when he needed one, usually against Florida for some reason

Auburn scored 28 points without a single offensive touchdown. That game produced just some absolutely wild WTF moments.

Auburn-UF back then is what LSU-UF is now.

Jordan Hare + a top 20 matchup is the toughest environment in the SEC.

Wonder if 17-11 or 18-11 would've been a scorigami

Personally, I think AU-UF was better. We never complained about playing them ever year and I sure do miss it.

I live in West Palm Beach and watched this game with approximately 15 people...at least 10 of which were Gators. It was truly one of the most enjoyable evenings as a college football fan. What an incredible blast I had.

And then UF vs Ohio St happened. I watched it with the same group and wanted to throw up afterwards.

I am really close to most of the people at both watch parties. As close as I am to those people, I'm still an Auburn grad who loves Auburn (my Dad was a QB on Auburn's 1957 National Championship team).

I was at the watch party for the BCS championship game because of how close I was/am to most of the people there. While outwardly I pretended to root for the Gators (I wasn't going to be THAT GUY), inwardly I was pulling for Ohio St (who I can't stand) because I knew an SEC rival winning a national championship wouldn't be good for Auburn. When Ohio St ran the opening kickoff back for a TD,the entire room went silent. While I was doing cartwheels inside, I tried to console my friends. I remember saying to the group "This is perfect. Now the Gators are totally awake and will take care of business." I just smiled as they all patted me on the back and thanked me for being pragmatic. I was so happy because my friends loved me for my "allegiance", but was ecstatic because Florida was losing.

Then the rest of the game happened....

Tim Tebow...I've never hated someone so much that I absolutely love and admire...

Vent over....

I mean even I believed OSU was unbeatable going into that game. We barely won a lot of games that year. OSU was considered the clear and obvious favorite. I remember hearing absolutely no one pick that Gators and most saying it likely wouldn't be close.

Then OSU found out the SEC is just a bit quicker. Ran around them all game. Was incredible.

This was my first trip to Jordan Hare and it sucked.
Still had a good time at the supper club. LOL

The SEC was a blood bath that year. Every game just was body blow on body blow.

Yep - had we kept our yearly rivalry with Auburn, we'd have the toughest schedule in the SEC every year.

Fixed it for you. Auburn would have still had the toughest SEC schedule.

ETA: I gave you the upvote!!

AU-UF - biggest casualty of the schedule realignment.

I would kill to play Auburn more than twice a decade.

Would also kill to go back to 12 and move to 9 conference games. So dumb that VOLS play Auburn and LSU once every 6 years while we have to sit through meaningless games against South Carolina and Mizzou every annum.

I'm assuming, despite your avatar, you are a Vol. I've been to Knoxville four times (2-2) and enjoyed all four trips. I really miss the AU-Tenn and AU-UF games on a regular basis.

Fair enough - although, look at this schedule in 2006 for UF:

vs. Southern Miss
vs. UCF (UF won 42-0 )
@ #13 Tennessee
vs. Kentucky
vs. Alabama
vs. #9 LSU
@ #11 Auburn
vs. #25 Georgia
@ Vanderbilt
vs. South Carolina
vs. Western Carolina
@ Florida State
vs. #8 Arkansas - SECCG
vs. #1 Ohio State - NCG

FTR, we played 4 top-10 teams on the road in '06:

Auburn
UF
UTenn
Arky

Tough stretch of teams.

I will agree that that is a tough schedule.

If we are going to show tough schedules (I do understand why you chose 2006), look at Auburn's in 1983 (while I was a student there) where we received one of the biggest screwjobs in college football history...the #1 title I reluctantly give to 1966 uat.

vs Southern Miss W 24-3
vs #3 Texas L 20-7
at Tennessee W 37-14
vs Florida State W 27-24
at Kentucky W 49-21
at Georgia Tech W 31-13
vs Miss St W 28-13
vs #5 Florida W 28-21
vs #7 Maryland W 35-23 (w/ Boomer Esiason)
at #4 Georgia W 13-7
vs #19 Alabama W 23-20
vs #8 Michigan W 9-7 (Sugar Bowl)

Show me a tougher final five games for anyone.

I mean...Auburn definitely had a claim to the national championship in 1983, but we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now had Osborne not had a set of balls and kicked the extra point. The Orange Bowl ends in a tie and Nebraska are your national champions for 1983.
