Once Vandy drops to FCS, I'd reckon Auburn moves to the east

I mean even I believed OSU was unbeatable going into that game. We barely won a lot of games that year. OSU was considered the clear and obvious favorite. I remember hearing absolutely no one pick that Gators and most saying it likely wouldn't be close.

Then OSU found out the SEC is just a bit quicker. Ran around them all game. Was incredible.

It didn't help that Tressel had the worst defensive gameplan imaginable, but Florida's front seven just overwhelmed them.

Ohio State kept giving Florida's WRs 8-10 yard cushions and never adjusted when Florida just threw quick passes against it for 5-6 yards over and over and over again. It was baffling.

I mean...Auburn definitely had a claim to the national championship in 1983, but we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now had Osborne not had a set of balls and kicked the extra point. The Orange Bowl ends in a tie and Nebraska are your national champions for 1983.

I agree

Wonder if 17-11 or 18-11 would've been a scorigami

I think this was the score of the Oregon Auburn national championship at one point

Florida wasn't blowing teams out, so that was a shocker for sure, mainly a dominant defense carrying the team like 1992 Alabama. They had the blocked FG against SCar and the Tennessee game a questionable personal foul on a hit on Leak.

That was a wild year - still amazes me that the 7 combined losses suffered by the top 6 teams in the final poll all came at the hands of another top 6 team:

#1 Miami to #6 Florida
#2 Nebraska to #1 Miami
#3 AU to #5 Texas
#4 UGa to #3 AU
#5 Texas to #4 UGa
#6 Florida to #3 AU and #4 UGa

That and Auburn-Tennessee. I really miss both.

I know you guys want the Tennessee game back as well, but I would trade Tennessee to the West for Auburn. While I enjoy the Tennessee game, we don't have much history with them outside of the 90's and the rivalry isn't anywhere close to what it used to be. I'd prefer to get back a traditional rival, it's crazy that the closest SEC campus to Gainesville is rarely on the rotation anymore.

Yeah 1997 his Old Mrs team whupped us in Death Valley a week after we ended that Florida SEC winning streak. What was the year when he coached TTU to a win at Norman? I understand that he didn't get along with people at Tech and the feeling was mutual; but to me it seemed he'd be a good fit at a low pressure place like that or Oxford where people are content with 7-4 every year peppered by an occasional 10 win season or big upset. An Auburn will expect more and I don't think his recruiting was up to that

Yep - had we kept our yearly rivalry with Auburn, we'd have the toughest schedule in the SEC every year.

Well maybe not. AU would play Florida, Georgia, LSU and bama
Your big 4 would be AU, Georgia, LSU and Florida state.
Sooooo. Not to mention AU is still in the west and even the bottom of the west is better then the bottom of the East. So no Florida wouldn’t have the hardest schedule.

Jordan Hare + a top 20 matchup is the toughest environment in the SEC.

As much as I hate on it in all honesty it probably has something to do with JHS being a glorified erector set. Jordan-Hare is just absurd during big games. I remember the 2017 UGA game one of the most consistently loud events I’ve ever been to, but ‘06 UF, ‘10 Clemson/LSU, and 2017/19 Bama were by far the loudest games I can remember. The kick-six was the loudest single moment I can remember but there was just something different about that ‘06 UF game.

and for this the Alabama fans and artist Daniel Moore owe Missouri a lot of thanks. Had heavily favored Nebraska won, they were going to play then #1 Penn State in the Orange.

From 1972-1978 Missouri had some of the weirdest, strangest roller coaster rides of any program.

Why did the SEC switch to only one permanent cross-divisional rivalry in 2003 anyway? LSU had played Kentucky and Florida annually for decades, not exactly natural rivals, but it was nice to have that familiarity

Auburn scored 28 points without a single offensive touchdown. That game produced just some absolutely wild WTF moments.

Lot of voodoo in Jordan Hare
