2005 USC was being hailed as "GOAT" before the national championship game.

Their offense, maybe. Fresno State put up 42 on that USC team.

They may have had the most dominant BCS championship performance of all-time, but they aren't among the best teams ever.

USC had to won a lot of close ones that year, IIRC (Va Tech, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, etc).

Undefeated makes them one of the best to me. Only one game was single digits at home. Road games are always closer than they would be at home or neutral field. 4 single digit games total.

1995 Nebraska is the GOAT, but 2004 USC is up there.

But 2004 USC would have beat the brakes off of Auburn. It's a shame that game never happened.

Auburn was significantly more talented but didn't benefit from the Media bump the USC players got. History bore this out to be true.

Hook taken...

Nope. '04 Auburn doesn't have the national title next to their name. Sucks they didn't get the chance, I would have liked to see the matchup.

In order to be in the "greatest" discussion

1. Undefeated
2. National Title

'04 Auburn falls to the same level as '12 Ohio State.

2003 USC. They crushed everybody other than their one hiccup game. Shame the coaches had to vote the winner of the other game #1. SC was clearly the best team that year.

Is this the kind of stuff Bama fans sit around and think about in the offseason?

Yes, and other things like who has a sexier QB, who would date each other for prom and other pathetic stuff.

Your logic is highly flawed. USC '04 simply was not that great, but keep those goal post on the move

Well, USC did beat Virginia Tech by double digits. Auburn only beat them by 3 points. Cal finished in the top 10 and had Aaron Rodgers of all people quarterbacking.

Auburn's game against LSU should have gone into OT...such bullshite. They also had a pretty tough game against Alabama if I recall. They certainly didn't waltz through the schedule.

I think USC beats them personally.

Back to the topic, I think 2012 Alabama wins.

How so? Requiring a national title AND undefeated season to be in the greatest discussion is flawed logic?

'04 Auburn didn't get to play for the national title therefore, are out of the "greatest" conversation. Sorry, that is just the way it is for me. Same with 2012 Ohio State.

Auburn looked impressive that year up until their final 3 games or so (from the Iron Bowl on).

USC only played 3 winning teams on that schedule, but people remember that team for the Orange Bowl domination.

Curious about this debate when 2003 USC team does not win the BCS championship

The best team every year is the BCS title game winner

Every team signs on to this so should the fans

I thought LSU team had one of the best regular season resumes in recent memory.

That's just me, though.

I think the physicality of the Bama run game (the O line + Lacy) would shock USC. I doubt they saw an offensive front with that kind of power. For that matter, most college football teams have never seen a front like that, which Is why I favor them over teams from the 90s and before

03 Michigan was a more physical rushing offense than Bama
