Shula did exactly was he was hired to do, right the ship and keep it from sinking. As another poster stated, if you weren't aware of what was going on with the Alabama program for many years before Shula, from Dubose to Price, you have no idea of how bad it really was and what a remarkable job Shula did keeping the ship from sinking.
He certainly wasn't the best coach, but he righted the ship enough for us to get Saban. You have to give him credit for that.

Shula had an eye for talent and even had a 10-game season as we continued to work through scholarship numbers. Arenas is a good get that later paid dividends in our Natty run.

But I don't have any problem separating the QB from the coach. As the former, he will always be associated with the '85' Ironbowl. And not to forget the completion late to Al Bell in Athens, also in '85.'That also broke some hearts.

Mike Price was never the head coach of men's football at the University of Alabama. President Witt simply stopped negotiations.

No signed contract and I have the same W/L record.

I have a difficult time hating on Mike Shula. As others have said, it was very bad at the Capstone. Mike was in way over his head, but he performed well as a stop gap and an ambassador of the University. He had a gunslinger mentality and swung for the fences with what he had to use.

If nothing else, he has a victory over Tennessee in much the same manner as one of Gene's. Tell me Vols, which is worse. 9-6 or 6-3?

I had just finished my second season playing baseball at a juco in Lower Alabama. We used to cross the state line to Pensacola to go get shitty at Arety’s Angels. Once saw a stripper balance a cigarette on her rock hard nipple and squirt teet milk at a teammate of mine.

I was living there the summer he got hired and fired, chillin’ on Fish River.

I absolutely couldn’t believe the old coach of Alabama had been in that bucket of blood of a strip joint haha.

Look at what I found LINK

That’s the same stripper from the si article

I’m almost positive it’s her

Maybe not but it’s the same name and it says she went to north Florida. Age progression looks right

Are you kidding?

1990 Gene Stallings goes into Knoxville vs #3 Vols. BAMA blocks the go-ahead field goal late and in comes Philip Doyle and he hits a 47-yarder as time expires. BAMA wins 9-6. My brother-in-law and I almost didn't get out of that place alive. Good damn times.

Was in a Galleria department store when the firing was announced, which felt like being at ground zero in a way

I was still in the Navy, flying to Fallon, NV that day for a 2 week det out of Cecil Field. We landed at NAF Dallas for fuel and got an update on the score. It was right near the end when we had to get back on the plane and a couple of volunteers fans in my squadron were giving me shite all the way into Fallon. A good friend of mine and a new Chief Petty Officer had made the advance det a couple days earlier, and he loves Alabama football. Came on the plane before us enlisted were able to disembark high fiving me and giving the vols a ration! Of course we all went over to the club after tossing our gear in the barracks but the beer just tasted better when the 3 vol fans had to buy the first 6 rounds amongst 7 Shipmates!

I was playing in the group behind him at the Pro-AM as it hit the fan when an official came to get him to see if the girl had permission to put to go orders on a University credit card.

No surprise. Always very nerve-racking against your biggest rival. But it's the most dramatic wins that stick the longest. I can still see the faces of Vol and BAMA fans as they made their way home. Regardless of which side you're on, it's forever.

Aretys Angels used to have like a $5 cover and then free beer from 5-7pm during the week,

I remember they had the newspaper article plastered on the wall right when you walked in.

How the hell has it been 20 years?

It’s crazy what the coaching market has done in 20 years too. Saban make more in a year than Price’s full 7 year contract he signed with Alabama.
