To answer the OP's question, no, 1983 Auburn was not the biggest hosing. In fact, it wasn't a hosing at all.

Care to elaborate on this position?

In short, I'd like to know how if you have four teams all finishing with one loss, how you are telling me the team with the best resume and by far the hardest SOS didn't deserve the #1 ranking?

I'll throw the 2004 Auburn team in that salad.

Auburn proved that with their pathetic performance against Texas and v USC and Nebraska in other years

Like Alabama in the 1972 Orange Bowl?

Because Alabama 1966 was a bigger hosing.

On the final game of the season. Miami beat the #1 ranked team and Auburn beat the #8 ranked team.

11 years earlier? Um. Ok. Well, I suppose. The perception was that the SEC was a regional conference a few notches below the big boys. That is why it was a super big deal for Penn State to lose to any SEC team, much less for a title.

I was more interested in your "it was not a hosing at all" comment.

Well they should probably grow up then. Getting your feelings hurt by a faceless internet stranger because something he said about a schools sports team you're a fan of, that was more than likely true, is a bit sad.

I didn't know they played that many preseason games before the one meaningful game back in 1983.

And, that 1983 Florida team should have won that game but Neal Anderson fumbled the ball going into the endzone and Bo took it all the way on the next play. So, the national audience perceived Auburn as not ready for prime time against the likes of Texas, and really should have lost v. Florida.

You realize that was in the 3rd quarter and put Auburn up 28-7?

Also, nobody respected Pat Dye for the way he handled the Greg Pratt situation with the fake fraternity brother shirts to try to incite emotion in the Auburn faithful against opposing fans by having an Auburn fraternity pretend to disrespect Pratt. It was a thing.

What a horrible thing to say. You are a complete jackass.

The jackass was Pat Dye. I didn't make it up. He did it. It was admitted by the fraternity. It is a known thing back then. Too bad the Internet wasn't around.

Believe what you want. I don't care. I don't have a dog in the hunt. Just telling it like it was. I lived a few miles outside of Auburn at the time. I know what I am talking about.

The perception of the SEC back then is that it was very competitive within itself, but it wasn't really a national conference that could handle national teams.

This is one of the most historically ignorant statements I have ever seen on this board, and that's saying a lot.

22 downvotes on a post with actual football discussion

I'd say this board has gone down hill, but let's be honest. It's sucked for a long time.

These days you get called a troll for using stats and facts because fans of other teams don't like the truth when it makes them look bad or a team they don't like look good.

A lot of it has to do with it being created by an Auburn fan. No one on the site is going to get positive feedback most of the time making a thread about their own school. Irrational but true. If a neutral fan started it then I don't think you would see as much push back.
