1978, as all football fans know, was a spectacular year for our savior Bear Bryant, and America's team, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Alabama lost early in the season to a team, SC, that ended the year relatively strong with a 17-10 win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Southern Cal's only loss was to a year's end 9-3 Arizona State in the fifth game of the year.

This year, Alabama lost to a Texas team that seems positioned to also finish the season strong but has a loss to what will eventually be around a 9-3 season's end Oklahoma.

In 1978, Alabama wrapped it all up with a victory over the undefeated and #1 Nittany Lions in a Sugar Bowl that still lives on in lore as one of the greatest college football games of all time.

Southern Cal ended their 1978 season with a win over a team, the Wolverines, in the Rose Bowl, that lost to an 8-3 Michigan State during the regular season.

2023 is lining up to be an almost exact repeat of 1978, relatively speaking, minus the newly created playoffs.

Expect Alabama to dominate the rest of their opponents this year and crush Georgia in another funeral type upset game that sends Dawg fans reeling for another 40 years.

Alabama will go on to win it all while Texas falls just short while losing to Ohio State? in the playoffs.

And, as history is repeating itself, expect garbage fans of dumpster teams to incessantly whine about an invalid/fake Alabama NC for the 2023 season, just as they do about 1978, because Texas beat us earlier in the season.

Crush Georgia? Okydokey. I’m resigned to an arse whipping by Georgia this weekend. Not sure where this home field confidence comes from but there will be plenty of Georgia fans at the SECCG. It’ll be a heck of a game to watch. But don’t count chickens too quickly.

Well at least this time Bama will have to earn it, if they can.

mentioning 78 without mentioning Arkansas knocking off OU for you is quite the self absorbed take, Baw.

No offense, but you are resigned to a loss to Georgia because you are an Ole Miss fan.

Lane Kiffin is great and Ole Miss is a fine team and has been a solid team throughout its history but, it's no Alabama.

Demanding and expecting excellence isn't just a slogan when it comes to expectations of the Alabama football team.

This attitude of never really expecting to be losers has guided Alabama football and its fans and supporters since at least the 1920's.

Even during the bleak years of probation, Alabama and its fans somehow expected to win, which we seldom did. It's a Kulcure.

Alabama thanked Arkansas the following season, in the Sugar Bowl, by only beating them by 15 points.

That was the thank you.

Are you saying Ole Miss has a chance to beat UGA, but Alabama has no chance to beat UGA in the SEC championship game?

Arkansas winning over Oklahoma was following the 1977 season.

We are back to back champions. Bama doesn’t even have a legitimate title since 2017. That’s more than half a decade.

Sit down clown, with that wishful thinking. The standard is where it should've been all along, with UGA.

As a student on campus during that time, no. No we did not “expect” to win. Oh we hoped…but we did not “expect” to win anything other than the party.

you know what happened after the 1978 season? UGA went on to win the title in 1980 and rule the SEC for 3 years. After the 1982 season Bear retired.

2020 Saban’s last title.. 2023.. seem a little to all familiar.
