Yeah, Iowa totally deserves a shot at the national championship!

They would need to win 3 games to get there, probably 2 on the road against top teams. If they can do that, sure, why not. Why are people afraid of letting it play out on the field?

Ah yes, that precious regular season which includes multiple barn burner matchups like Alabama vs. (3-9 FCS) Western Carolina in Week 13. Totally and utterly ruined!

First, they'd need to shuffle a few teams from G5 to P5 and from P5 to G5.

When I say there’s too big a gap, I’m referring to the schools’ athletic budgets. Many G5 schools rely upon their paydays from P5 schools to stay afloat. If P5 schools stop playing G5 schools, a significant class distinction will quickly develop to complement the present athletic distinction.

This is VERY easy!! All that has to happen is for the P5 conferences to get to 16 teams each.

Each conference has 4 pods of 4 teams with the top team making a conference tournament. those 16 teams make the playoff and the top 4 non-power 5 teams compete for a spot.

SEC - 4
B10 - 4
B12 - 4
PAC12 - 4
ACC - 4
NON P5 - 4

Each conference has a 2 game tournament to determine the conference winner and the survivors advance. Started with 24 teams with a chance and you end up with a 6 team tournament. The last 2 teams would only play 2 extra games they don't already play now. This ends all speculation, all human emotion. Win on the field, win your pod, a team that does not win its conference cannot win the national title. The smaller schools have a chance but they have to play a schedule that gets them into the top 4 of the nonpower 5 teams.

So take the SEC

If they added UCF and USF.

SEC East - Florida, USC, UGA, UCF
SEC North - UT, Kent, Mizz, Vandy
SEC West - TAM, Ark, Miss St, LSU
SEC South - Bama, Aub, Miss, USF

the winner of each of these would advance to the SEC portion of the tournament. The two winners would play in the SEC title game.

Completely agree, A&M should be booted from the SEC and sent to the Sunbelt

This would be an INSANELY amazing CFB weekend. December Madness. I'm still not a proponent of a 16 team playoff, but my arse would be glued to the couch for what I presume would be at least a 2 day event b/c they would try to milk it for all it's worth.

16 is way too many and totally devalues the regular season and conference titles. 6 is the most it should ever be, and I'm ok if it's at 4. I don't feel much sympathy for #5 being left out. #3, yes sometimes. #17 though? They probably don't even deserve a NY bowl.

IF/WHEN the AD's decide to go with 6/8 team playoff...ALL first round games should be played ON CAMPUS...no ifs/ands/buts !
