“I don’t know about “by far”
2023 FSU finished undefeated in the regular season”
That’s a fair point. I was basing more so on the FSU game was in the superdome versus this week being @clemson

Off topic. This thread is about season openers.
State was LSU’s opener in 2020, the college football year that does not count. The same goes for the championship

Look for the trend to continue this weekend unfortunately
I'm looking for the trend that Ole Miss can't make it to Atlanta to continue as well .

@Clemson is tough but LSU really needs to get that win. Our game will be pretty big if LSU does beat Clemson.

They open with Clemson next year and Nussmeier will be gone, @ Houston in 2027, SMU 28, @ SMU 29, @ AZ State 30. It's possible they go the entire decade without winning an opener

Changing the subject.

Yeah, in fairness, while most teams play a tough OOC game, it’s wild that LSU consistently schedules it for the first game of the year.

Yeah give them credit for always scheduling a big dawg to play.

This is a definite fact and does not prove the end of the season and will not this year if happens again. But nonetheless, it is a fact.

I'm not sure that would've gone well for you, either.
Yeah. Troy is no juggernaut like UCF:

“How in the heck is that possible. Did LSU open up with tough SEC teams some of those years?”
2020 - Miss St
2021 - @ucla
2022 - Florida St (stung the most for me, blocked extra point with no time left. FSU 24 - 23
2023 - Florida St
2024 - USC
All P5 / P4 teams. No one else in the conference should be shitting on you for that.

The Ears Whitworth era. Surprised the games weren't even worse.

Both finished top 10 IIRC

Yeah, I dunno

Now do SEC teams that play cupcake/nobody teams for their opener.
Even Napier has won a legit opener. Utah made everyone think that Anthony Richardson would win the Heisman for 6 days.
2020: @ Ole Miss
2021: probably some cupcake, maybe USF
2022: Utah (finished top 10 and beat USC twice)
2023: @ Utah
2024: Miami
2025: was supposed to be @ Miami until Notre Dame dicked us, now we play them in week 4 instead

Another thing I think is crazy is that no other SEC team even has a losing record in openers.
True, competition plays a big part. I'd be curious to see the break down of games vs P4 competition compared to G5 opponents.
