Ole Miss does have about the most impressive win in the country at the moment with a 3 score win over UGA. Also, all 3 of their losses were by a single score. I don’t think any of this matters though as no team that hasn’t won at least 10 is getting into the playoffs without some major upsets this weekend. Realistically Syracuse over Miami would shake things up a bit (even if USC beats ND I have a hard time seeing ND get left out unless it is a complete blowout)

Because South Carolina has been playing as well as anyone in the country right now. Crazier things have happened. The only team that is sitting pretty in the SEC is Tennessee. UGA, and Texas could lose the opportunity to host a playoff game, and ATM could sneak in by winning the SECCG if they win the next 2. There's plenty football left. BTW, the SEC is going to beat each other up every season, while teams like Indiana, or SMU, play a bunch of also rans every year. I was content with 4 teams. You mean to tell me Indiana can beat Tennessee, or Georgia? Gimme a break.

I agree with the take, but this 12 team format and how it is seeded let's those UCF, Boise, Liberty type teams and now Indiana and SMU get in and see if they actually have the chops. I suspect that most of the time they won't, but at least it leaves no doubt.

At the end of the day, TV ratings will be pushed and the match-ups will be set based on trying to draw the largest media audience.

The FSU debacle of last season pretty much proves that media bias is on full display when you contrast it to this years' Penn State ranking at number 4.

The "Best Teams" concept is a total misnomer at this point.

They beat a top 12 team on the road,

Bama beat a top 10 team at home.
Ole Miss beat a top 10 team at home. (UGA for both)

Both also beat SC head to head (one on the road). And after losing to SC, Clemson would be ranked below SC.

SC's next biggest win will be A&M if A&M beats Texas. If not it will be Mizzou (who Bama also beat)

SC won't have an advantage in overall results. Add to that they lost to both Ole Miss and Bama head to head... and there's little reason they should hop either team other than recency bias.

The BCS isn't very different.

What does the committee do if Clemson beats SC and SMU loses the ACCCG? Who gets a spot out of those 2.

Clemson, almost solely based on their win over SC.

SMU would have no win of note. Clemson would have SC.

How the hell is Missouri ranked

Because they’re a “ranked” win for Bama?

Notre Dame, Miami, Indiana, and Clemson (as of now) are going to make them rethink the need for 12 teams in the playoffs real quick.

….and Penn State. And SMU. And ASU. And Boise State….

I’d go with UGA over Texas, simply because Dawgs were on the road.

Indiana is a 29 point favorite over Purdue. Win this game and Indiana is in. Not a very difficult threshold for the playoff for the Big 10

It's college football. Any team can win on any day. BSU was 2 special team plays away from beating Oregon in Eugene this year. ASU held State to less points than UGA did. If Penn State gets a home game, they wont be a cake walk.

You gotta shake that Big 12 mindset, man. None of those teams can come close to hanging with the top half of the SEC.

I can tell you right now, most teams playing in the CFP would love to play Tennessee in the first round. USF played Alabama tough 2 years in a row now. Bowling Green went into College Station and nearly beat A&M.

SEC or not, any team can give another a run for their money.

So? SC lost to a couple of teams with horrible losses then. One at home.

They are definitely giving the "little guy" a chance. What's going to happen when it's 27-3 @ the half between UGA v SMU, with the Dawgs winning? Viewership will decrease, and it'll be time to hang Xmas lights. The 12 team playoff definitely has its flaws. As bad as Alabama has played, they could beat a team like Indiana, or Arizona St for example.

Texas is in, regardless of going 12-1, 11-2, or 10-2
UGA is in as long as they finish at least 1-1
Vols are in as long as they beat Vandy

I think A&M needs to win out to be in.

I also think the final spot will come down to an 11-2 ACC title game loser vs 10-3 Bama

How is Bama a 10-3 team in this situation? At best they can be 9-3 before bowl season. There's no pathway for them making the SECCG.
