Why did they only play 8 innings?

last nites games was suspended in the 7th for today...so they finished that game today...SEC rules state any game suspended and resume the next day on a travel day the 3rd game will be a 7 inning game..

So Game 3 had to be a 7 inning game and they went extra innings...

Tex leaguer

I was so sick of hearing the Aggies announcers say that word...its like every damn hit they were calling it a Texas leaguer...

I have never heard that word so many times in my life than I did this weekend...

aTm decided to prematurely pull the tarp out last night for impending rain, lighting was nearby but not enough to call it immediately. That game ended up being postponed till this morning. We finished that game and by SEC mandate the 2nd game of the day must be a 7 inning game.

According to your people.

quote:

The umpires stopped the game at 8:32 p.m. Friday and ordered the tarp be placed on the field even though there were no weather issues at the park at the time. The stoppage was prompted by an approaching storm that featured severe lightning and rain. The delay lasted until shortly after 11. By SEC rules, the game would have had to resume by midnight Friday or carry over to Saturday. It didn’t start raining until about 45 minutes after the stoppage, but lightning could be seen in the distance and moved closer to the stadium before the rain arrived.

I don't know, maybe you just like living on the edge. Seems if lightning is approaching the field, pulling the tarp is sort of, um, just not negligent.

LSU's baseball program doesn't have to prove anything to you or anyone else.

once the game starts, all such decisions are made by the umpiring crew. The A&M staff has no say whatsoever

The rules were posted in the game thread last night.

It was something like lightning 20 miles away means the crowd gets warned, but gameplay can continue until...lightning within 5 miles of the stadium gets the game stopped for 45 minutes. They warned the crowd, because the lightning was detected within 20 miles, but it wasn't close enough to FORCIBLY stop the game, that was a judgement call at that point and with the impending storm coming, they decided to just call it...which turned out to be a premature decision.

The umpires dont monitor the weather radar, they umpire the game. The radar is watched by a home field guy. This was also posted as in the rules in the game thread last night. The SEC doesn't provide weather officials for every game. The home field weather official simply relays what information they know about whats going on with the radar to the umps when they feel its necessary.

Who tells the umpires about the weather?

I think they think the SEC provides a weather official or something for every game

Like I said, it was posted last night in the game thread the home team is expected to have someone monitor the radar, then relay that information to the umps.

sure, they consult a number of people (including the grounds crew and both coaches). And they actually go into the clubhouse and are shown the radar picture. But in the end they make the decision, your conspiracy theory notwithstanding

According to a post on here from a few years ago:

quote:

When lightning is detected within six (6) miles of the competition site, the competition shall be suspended. Competition may be resumed when lightning is no longer within the six-mile range.

That gives TAMU no discretion whatsoever. So unless you want to suggest we straight lied about the distance (which I wouldn't put past any of y'all ), kindly STFU.

Here's the link to the thread. The source linked therein only takes you to the official SEC website. I'll get you a verified and updated rule.

They make the decision based on what the home field official tells them. LOL @ acting like the umps are weather experts. The rules are pretty straight forward when it comes to lightning. It was a judgement call to stop the game, not a forceful stop.
