This time last week 4 of us flew from Nova Scotia and did a grand tour of the South in just over 40 hours. All told we flew 3,500 miles, drove 750 miles across 5 states, met new friends, played a great golf course and watched 3 college football games. What a trip.
For all of you who live in the South, Thanks for your hospitality. You do it right.
Here are the crib notes:
Fly to Memphis;
Free upgrade to Yukon XL;
Drive immediately to Central BBQ for ribs;
Donate $10 to one legged gentleman with request to watch car while purchasing liquor. Liquor store clerk passes bottles of vodka and bourbon through bars after payment;
Drive to Starkville for LSU @ MSU game. Geaux Tigers! Good atmosphere and very friendly fan base. The bells are getting louder;
Immediately after game drive to Birmingham and stay in suites above proshop at Shoal Creek golf club;
Breakfast with Shoal Creek contact and Paul Finebaum;
18 holes of great golf at Shoal Creek;
Drive on to Grand Hyatt, Atlanta. Out for a few drinks and a bite;
Up early Saturday and drive to Clemson for Auburn @ Clemson game. Highway 76 sucks, but Clemson is a great football experience;
Drive to Columbia for second game of the day.
Make 6:00 PM kick off of Navy @ Gamecocks. Nail biter for the Cocks;
Up on Sunday morning at 4:45 for early flight;
Home by lunch.
Exhausted.

That's an epic journey! An article of this magnitude belongs in a magazine!

This part I believe.

Give us more details. How was it?

Do it. It's a lot of fun. And easier if you are already in the US. If some terrible dudes from Nova Scotia can do it (this is my 8th such adventure), so can you.

Breakfast with Paul Finebaum was fantastic. He was extremely engaging. Personally, I like that he is so prepared to express his opinions. It's not everyday that you get to sit down and ask someone like that questions. The whole breakfast, including the time we spent with our Shoal Creek host, was a highlight of the trip.

I promised myself after my first trip like this to go on at least on a year. I have gone to a different location each time. That way I get to experience the different places and traditions.
Football is the platform for the trips, but the best part is the people you meet along the way.
I have to admit that it is getting tough not to return to places I have already been to and say hello to folks.

Glad you guys chose to stop by Starkvegas. Hope everything was great. I must do a trip like this. I did two games in a weekend to kick off this football season but that was basically in my home state and with no golf.
