I was ok with keeping Luke until the NCAA lifted the recruiting ban. Any hire we make right now is on level ground with everyone else. We don’t have to settle for average anymore.

If we are forced to keep Luke (I know we are, the foundation folks have been pumping “give luke a chance” to all the big donors) I think he has to get rid of at least Longo and force McGriff to step up the recruiting game. We are losing all the dandy dozen kids on defensive side of the ball to state and Bama. Unacceptable, same crap that happened under Freeze. Go hire Tony Hughes and fix the recruiting on that side of the ball over night.

That would be great because it would cause Rosebowl to shite a brick but would call the attention of the NCAA frickwads.

100% go get him.

I read this thread and see people saying to keep McGriff and fire Longo. That's bullshite. They both suck and need to be as far away from our team as possible.

I have my high school football playbook that has more than 20 plays and umpteen "looks" in it. I will coach the offense on the cheap.

Can anyone volunteer to coach the defense? No experience necessary.

I have experience. We'll keep things base. 4-3 scheme, gap control, just three coverages, Lots of safety and corner blitzes. A few mixes and twists with a some slants and pinches. It will be much better than what we've been doing.

I'm for it. You actually have a plan, unlike McGriff.

You're hired.

We'll also need to hire Tony Hughes to help recruit, bust it in the weight room and require the offense to run the ball more so we don't have to stay on the field quite so much against good teams.

Done.

Jackson is fired. We will spend some money on a new S&C coach.

Also done. We have the backs and the O-line to do this... for now.

Good thing The Season ran that endearing segment about Coach McGriff and Coach Roach playing golf in the first episode, otherwise I would be pretty upset about the defensive product on the field.

It’s embarrassing to have Luke as a head coach. As long as he’s our head coach we have no desire to be competitive. I can’t wait two more years so we can START rebuilding. He needs to be fired NOW.

I don't find it funny when our guys get pushed around on the field like a bunch of 10 year old girls.

Or when I'm sitting in the stands in Houston watching a defensive lineman falling over and crawling on his hands and knees at a snap because he is too winded to play football. Had it not been for the previous TV timeout, they would have had to carry his fat, out of shape arse off the field on a stretcher.

You sound like someone who has never played a sport in your life. No matter how in shape you are anyone can get tired. Especially a DL who generally are or should be going 100% every play and dont get to take plays off.

Pushed around? I was at the Tech game. It may have been the best team performance we've had all year.

Injuries happen.

I've played plenty of sports. I've prepared for the sport. I've gotten winded playing the sport. But because of my preparation, I've never crawled on my hands and knees across a finish line or a line of scrimmage.

We have known for the past several seasons that our defense would be on the field for considerable playing time. This isn't news. Crawling around on the football field by our linemen is fricking unacceptable. The lineman I saw wasn't injured. He was fat and out of shape.

And yes-our defense gets pushed around like a bunch of pussies. Have you watched any games this year, or are you being intentionally obtuse?

Wth are you talking about. If there was a defensive lineman crawling on the field it's because we are about 6 deep on the DL and they play the entire freaking game because we have no depth. These guys aren't out of shape. It's the freaking SEC. The only time people blame SC coaches is when they are losing.

Agreed. However when you look at most SEC DLines their guys are going every play. There's lots of rotation. Rest is easier. We don't have that luxury bc we are too dang thin.

I was on this team for a year and I can promise that the conditioning is as good as it can get for the most part. Yeah some injuries could be avoided in certain areas but often times when guys get hurt it's due to poor technique or standing around just as much as the conditioning. I do agree with you that our DLine is constantly gased

It was crazy last week against South Carolina. We were obviously gassed on the DL, but it was like USC hit some sort of switch because they started getting QB pressure out of nowhere with their DL and backers. Was it because our QB couldn't move? Was it their depth? Was our OL gassed because we ran damn near 100 plays? Did we become too predictable for whatever reason? It's either one of these or a combo of all four, but it flat happened. And just on one side of the ball which was the most frustrating part. We should haven beaten the Cocks, but we just wouldn't allow it to be.

Three words: Red Zone Efficiency. It might surprise you to hear we are actually one of the most efficient Red Zone offenses in the country. Top 10 if I’m correct. The issue is most of that efficiency is rooted in field goals. As the saying goes, field goals don’t win games. I hate that saying because I’ve seen games where getting a field goal early on was the difference in losing or winning the game. But to me last Saturday was a prime example of field goals not winning games being true. We had several opportunities to score TDs early and didn’t follow through.
