I thought he weighed in at the opening in Dallas around 210 lbs and is expected to play Safety or Linebacker

I imagine he’s a DB, assuming he can enroll

The boards are very quiet, so I'll take up a little space.
I understand that some are so unhappy with the Luke hire, or "surrender" some would call it. Some so much so that they hope for the team to fail so badly that Luke's dismissal would be automatic - beyond debate. I take no issue with people having and expressing their own opinions - after all, I sport an a-hole myself.
But the ability to feel gratified by any Ole Miss loss in competition is not within me. I could not hope for an Ole Miss team to fail even if doing so would ensure the death of Satan (no, not Saban) and the icing over of hell.
So, the team will suit up twelve times this season and twelve times I'll be pulling for an Ole Miss win, knowing the likelihood of finding disappointment when the final whistle blows. But maybe I'll get to see another Patrick Willis or Cody Prewitt giving it everything they've got on the field - or a Joe Gunn or Ronnie Heard.
If Luke needs to go after this season, I'll be on board. And I'll be on board for a comprehensive search and a visionary selection who can bring in some 5-stars. But right now I'm ready for some football.

Luke would have to go 2-10 for us to fire him.
Posted on 5/8/18 at 1:57 pm to WithaRebelYell
I dunno, 4 or fewer wins would hopefully be enough to show he's simply not cut out for a big boy gig. If we were to go winless in conference play without really ever competing, I'd hope the athletic department would have seen enough

4 wins we're irritated, 5 wins we say he did the best he could, 6 wins hes praised.
I really like our coordinators. If i was head coach i could watch porn all day and still get to 4 wins.
We are stuck with him for 3 years minimum.

And yes, I'm going to be extremely negative towards Luke and this program until they provide the same results or better that Freeze did.

I agree you cannot win recruiting only MS.

Longo is recruiting out of state....

Curious could you tell me as to what you are requiring for same results or better than Freeze?
He had a 6-6 regular season. The same record as Freeze did in his first season.
I mean I could Imagine it will be pretty easy for him to equal 0 conference championships in 5 seasons or if you want to be a little more lenient 0 conference division titles in that time span.

Out of the top 10 signees from our 2018 class, only 2 are from MS. The 2019 class for the state of Mississippi is one of the best in recent memory, hence why our top 2 commits are composite 0.96+ and are both from Mississippi. We do have a commitment from a 4* out of state, but that’s about it. There’s a lot of cycle left

I didn't like the hire and hope that it takes a better than .500 record for him to stay - but I just can't root for losses.
Posted on 5/8/18 at 4:51 pm to chasjay
I’m telling you 4-8 he stays.
Posted on 5/8/18 at 5:13 pm to WithaRebelYell
Sadly I think he stays even if he goes 0-12
Posted on 5/8/18 at 5:21 pm to chasjay
So who is rooting for losses? You can hate the hire and still hope for the best. Luke seems like a nice guy who love OM. Hope he wins 10 this year.

I want to win, but I do not think luke will win if we continue to recruit poorly. I like our coordinators but feel the staff needs a better leader.

If we continue to recruit poorly.
----------------------------------
Well, let see.... a top 30 class shortly after being placed on a 2 year bowl ban. Seems as if he didn't dip too far considering the circumstances.
The NCAA is attempting to perform a new era death penalty on our program and all Luke and his staff does is pull a top 30 class.
If they win 8 and beat state he and the staff shouldn't have any problem finishing in the top 20.
4 highly contested losses to Alabama, Auburn, LSU and aTm will only show recruits how close they are to being a contender again. Those recruits won't be missing any bowl games. So if Luke and staff go 14-10 during their probation, I wouldn't expect their recruiting to dip too far the next year.
Then you better settle in to 5 years of Matt Luke. To be honest I hope he does better than Freeze. Freeze threw us under the bus with the NCAA and then tried to run over to Alabama. Frick that lil' bitch and his holier than thou BS.

We have a top 30 class in May. It is made up have several low 3 stars. It maybe top 50 of it holds as is.

We're not going 0-12. This team should definitely be better than Nutt's 2011 2-10 squad, which is our worst modern team. We should absolutely win 3 of the 4 OOC games without blinking, and I think we should be able to beat Texas Tech as well.
If we go winless in SEC play, I'm not sure how the athletic department justifies keeping Luke. Our bye is in late October (10/27), and we don't have a creampuff OOC game between the Arky (10/19) and the Egg Bowl (11/22), but our hardest games on paper currently are all played by mid-October. We play both Bama and LSU before October, but between Arkansas, aTm, South Carolina, Vandy, and State, one would think the offensive firepower alone would be able to scrape out a win here or there.
Last year's squad could've easily finished with 8 or 9 wins if Luke hadn't bungled @ Cal (the week he was away from the team interviewing with the NCAA), vs. Arky (unforgivable), or vs. aTm (both offenses shite the bed in the second half). We also could've easily lost @ Kentucky or @ State last year, but we didn't. A 4 or fewer win season where the team regularly gets blown out would be a significant dropoff from last year.
As far as where the 2019 crootin' class could finish up, the 2018 class finished at 31 with a 0.8676 composite; the 2019 class with 3 4*s and a ton of 3* Mississippi kids currently has a composite of 0.8744 and is ranked 10. This class currently has the fourth highest composite score in program history, or at least since 247/Rivals has started analyzing classes as a whole. It's a higher composite than any Nutt, Orgeron, or Cutcliffe class (as was the 2018 class). Outside of the epic 2013 and 2016 classes (though 2016 obviously didn't really pan out for us), Freeze's 2015 class finished with a 0.8865 composite and was 17 nationally. Freeze's 2014 class finished with a 0.8742 composite and was 15 nationally (but only 8th in the conference). The current class has a higher composite than the top 15 class of 2014, and it's currently on pace to replace at least last season's class as the 5th highest composite score in program history, if it doesn't replace the 2014 class as the 4th. If we land a few more 4*s or even a 5* (almost certainly not happening), it wouldn't be crazy to think this class' composite can improve by a point and finish up around the top 20 range, which would be really good considering all the bullshite the program's endured since Draft Night 2016. It sucks, but we're not going to have a class like 2013 again any time soon for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being that it was far and away the best class the program has ever signed in its 125 year history. 2013 and 2016 are the only times we've finished in the top 5 in the conference, and they got us a 5 year NCAA investigation that's currently hurting recruiting
