I feel pretty certain that is the game plan and the hoped for result. Sounds way more realistic than the people who actually think Eli would entertain the idea of heading to Oxford. We go to learn to run the ball on third down. We could have done better at this this year if we had just attempted it more. I see Longo being around one more year.

I'm starting to accept the Luke hire, but keeping Longo is terrible

I believe the money allocated for assistants is high, because it will give Luke an opportunity to bring in more eyes to help him assess where the Rebels need to concentrate in order to improve.

You would hope that Luke and his staff would sit down at the end of the season and assess their weaknesses. The extra money for staff could bring in some quality coaches on the outside to help with the assessment.

I think you give the OC and DC one more season. Assess their weaknesses put in place the changes needed in order to improve and then see what results they can bring about.

The offense is close. More balance and the ability to identify defensive adjustments in the 2nd half in order to keep the offense from getting shut down in the 2nd half.

The defense needs a lot of work. The defensive line appeared better at the end of the season. Speaks being moved around seem to help. Maybe he needs to drop to 260 lbs and become a LB. He could fill some holes in the middle. Can we retain Patrick Willis to coach him into that position?

The secondary needs to be better on the ball. They need to be more aggressive on the edges in support of the run.

They all need an adjustment in attitude when tackling. There should be nothing but bad intentions going through the minds of the tacklers when attempting to tackle.

Find some players who like to hear the ball carriers moan and groan after being tackled. Players who understand that you can take a player's will by dominating them with extreme physical contact. Players who will impose their will.

We need some bullies on the defensive side of the ball. We need some bad asses that scare the opposing players.

I think Breeland Speaks could be that player.

RCR with some thoughts on this

I love their suggestion that we could convince Joe Pannunzio to drop all of his responsibilities at Alabama to become an analyst here.

I think Longo and Crime dog are here for another year. I'm all for expanding the staff with good recruiters. We should go after Terry Price pretty hard. I wouldn't mind seeing a change at secondary coach, Jones hasnt shown me much. Go after Gray from Fla, with Mcriff and Gray you would have 2 great recruiters, a NFL position coach and a guy that has been putting DBs in the league year after year. The money has been allocated, changes need to be made and recruiters need to be brought in.

I’m not sure about Longo but the offense looked more balanced with Ta’amu as QB
so maybe he stays if Shea leaves ? The O line was decent and should get better.
Luke needs help with game management and our defense needs help from recruiting
to tackling , that’s where the bulk of the money should be spent.

My problem with Longo is everybody figured out our offense in the first half and shutdown our offense in the second half.

Needs to expand the playbook for sure. Hire more offensive analysts to help game plan. We need help on both sides of the ball with coaching and need a lot of help recruiting across the board.

Just fire the man and hire someone who doesn't need to change their entire philosophy to become a good OC.

For everyone saying the offense looked more balance and Wilkins and AJ put up record numbers, that didn't put points on the board and everyone figured out how to stop us quickly.

I just don’t understand at all why Luke would want to retain Longo? All I heard all year from the beat writers was how Longo was not the type of coordinator that Luke would’ve hired if he had the choice and how different their philosophies are.

Maybe the players like him ? Don’t know.
Considering our personnel, maybe he did
better than he should have.

Hire Freeze. I hear he's available.

The 247/Spirit contingent believes that we shouldn't fire Longo because of his gaudy but mostly ineffective offensive performance. It's like they never watched past the 2nd quarter.

They were also some of the most vocal supporters of hiring Matt Luke. I would retain McGriff if he's able to find some defensive talent. His rumored recruiting prowess will need to be shown to be true, but Longo needs to go ASAP.

Nothing will happen because Matt Luke doesn't want to hurt feelings and "muh family".

The thing is you don’t fire an OC unless you have the next one sign, sealed and delivered. The question is there a better option out there right now....I honestly don’t know.

Agree with Sorant, OC is least of our problems. He needs to adjust better in the second half, so work on it. Our most important concern is retaining present players and recruiting.

Hard to do with Longo as OC. He isn't a good recruiter and he won't put the points on the board that win games and make recruits want to come.

I'm fine with McGriff staying as DC, but if Luke doesn't fire Longo, he is shooting himself in the foot big time.

I agree with most of what you are saying. We don't know how good of a recruiter he is because this is his first year doing it on this level.

Honestly we hired Luke, may as well keep Longo. 3 OC in three years is tough.

Keep Longo and hire Freeze as a consultant. Someone that could add a few pages to the play book.

Jordan opened up the running game with his ability to run the ball. Shae didn't want to run the read option. The QB has to be considered a threat in order for the run game to work in the read option.

I think Longo would do well if he could sit down with Freeze and review what adjustments teams made that kept the offense from being as explosive in the 2nd half of games.

If Longo doesn't learn and grow into the position. Hire Freeze as the O/C next season.

If not, Saban will hire Freeze and with all the talent they have, they won't have any problem scoring 70 on everyone.

I'm sure after Clemson shuts the Bama offense down, Saban will be looking for another O/C. They need to offer him before the Clemson/Bama game or he's gone to Satanville.
