RCR put up a piece I think we can all agree on, they basically say Luke should be like Dabo. Hire amazing coordinators, get out of their way, and manage the players.

With that said, with $5MIL available, who is realistically an option for:

OC (We must Replace Longo)

DC (I'm okay with McGriff staying, but there's still a chance he doesn't)

Eli manning as OC/QB coach
Willie Patrick as LB coach

For DC, we have to hire someone who can scheme/adjust the defense.

Don't see it happening. He has limited interaction with coordinators being at the same position at the same school for so long. The coordinators he does have working experience with haven't been very good.

Im not so sure he can lure in Grade A coordinators with no OM ties either given the current situation.

Why give such a big staff salary allotment if we are just going to stick with the same coaching staff (that largely no one else wants)?

For OC it might either be a choice of Longo or we go overpay for Kurt Roper.

USCe was 12th in scoring in the SEC. Get rid of Longo for a even worse hire? Probably the most Matt Luke hire possible.

There's gotta be someone out there besides Roper

I've accepted the Luke hire, but if we end up with Roper as OC I'm done.

OT but not worth its own thread: does Brad Logan seriously Just subscribe to all the Ole Miss paysites then regurgitate their information (does credit the paysites) to gridironnow for a living?

Kurt Roper?

That’s not how any of this works.

Of course there is but after hiring our bad offensive line coach as head coach why would you expect us to have actually make a competent or aggressive hire?

I’d take Dan Werner every day that ends in Y over Longo or Roper. If it makes any of you feel any better I didn’t throw out Roper’s name because I have any inside information; I just know that he and Matt are best friends and it just makes sense.

Like someone mentioned earlier, Matt Luke might be a decent hire if he just hired extremely good coordinators and lets them do their jobs. I want him recruiting, managing the program, gladhanding boosters, and not much else. He’s a liability as an on-field coach.

We said screw it w/ the head coach hire. All of sudden, we are going to try to lure top notch coordinators? Nope. Same problems.

As far as the coordinators go, Luke has to assess the following:
1) How is their relationship with the players.
2) Does he feel the coaches will be able to make adjustments in order to be successful?
3) Have they been committed to building relationships for recruiting and those players that are presently on campus.

If he sowan't believe they are doing things his way, send them packing.

Those he keeps, he needs to explain the standards and the expectations. Those who exceed are rewarded, those who fail are sent packing.

In the end they will determine his success or failure as Head Coach.

That's the business end that he has to protect.

Boys y'all just need to be realistic, nothing changes. Luke gets better as he gets another season under his belt and we win 8 games. We riding this out! Were going to be fine! Stop panicking!

Until you look at the juniors / seniors on the roster and then look at our 2018 commits and realize we're fricked next year

I don't see him as a realistic option for us, but it's interesting that Matt Canada is apparently on his way out at LSU after one year. Is Orgeron making the same mistakes he made at OM (micromanaging his coordinators instead of empowering them)?
