I said I’ve warmed up to him

I’m still skeptical to a degree until I see him and his staff perform a full season

We need folks like you, HJJ. We can’t get too comfortable.

They sure looked good against us and Indiana. He’s also from Hernando. Hopefully will help us with some instate recruiting.

His in-laws are huge State fans, so that’s always fun.

On the surface, I very much like the hire.

Great hire! That's a rock-solid pick up for us. Why would that guy want to leave Miami, I don't know but I'll take that all day.

Wait, you’re allowed to hire staff after the season is over? Imagine that.

Word is Delta State head coach Todd Cooley is headed to OM to be assistant head coach/high school recruiting coordinator of some sort. Very good pick up.

Another guy with HC experience on the staff, which is always a good thing

I hope we can repair some relationships with high school coaches with this hire.

Meh. They aren’t needed as much as they used to be. We’ve had arguably our best run in school history without them.

I still stand firm that we should be developing offensive linemen from high schools. That isn’t a plug and play position.

Im not saying we should fixate on high school recruiting, but we shouldn’t wholesale ignore it either. OL are tough to find in the portal.

probably a bit of a mix of both, but I think you’re right the foundation should be built with hs over a period of time.

That is what Cristobal is doing at Miami and they were a qb away from winning the natty

I remember Walker Jones talking about recruiting and he said as long as the money is similar it reverts to traditional recruiting. So relationships are still important. Also the delta state coach is gonna have strong connections to Mississippi high school coaches cause they have to work their asses off to get players.

Having a relationships with kids thru high school can pay off big time in portal era.. That is where many coaches are going wrong in this era thinking you don't need them when long term you do.. Even if the kid don't come here right out high school.. If they get portal and you one first offer or visit them people remember that stuff.. Its nothing you deprogram out of a person. That is why a lot coaches are not making in the portal era.
