Kiffin and Cignetti make big money, have full support and good infrastructure to sustain success. Staying where you are and eventually having a statue seems more appealing to me than taking a chance at leaving and maybe working for ESPN in three years.
Well said. There’s a big difference between being THE guy and just being the NEXT guy, which is what a lot of these historically good jobs have turned into.

I'm glad all of these coaching positions are opening up now. With Knox having moved to Oxford and going to school here, and Lane with a daughter at Ole Miss, he's not going anywhere while that is happening (unless the NFL comes calling or the Alabama job opens up). It's amusing reading tRant with Florida salivating over Lane - no chance in hell he goes there.

Why does the SEC cannibalize their own programs? Nothing is more pathetic than poaching a head coach from another school within your conference. And they want us to go back to being mid sooooooooooo bad. I love how they HATE not planning the auto "W" they had for us for so many years They need us to go back to the good ole days for their peace of mind and I love the mind frick.

We were so close to being free offensively:
quote:
"Napier tried to hire Ole Miss offensive coordinator and play caller Charlie Weis Jr., before the 2024 season, two different people with direct knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. But Weis decided to stay with Rebels coach Lane Kiffin, and Napier never made another serious run at an offensive coordinator. "

CWJ is doing a decent job this season. I'm off the blame wagon on that guy. Plus, you never know who you are going to get to replace him and even if that person meshes well with Kiffin and Golding. Either way, when our offense is good, people celebrate Kiffin and when the offense misses, people piss on CWJ. That's just not the reality of the situation.

Yeah this season there's definitely been an improvement. But he 100% had to have a role in our offensive deficiencies last season - which are why we missed the playoffs.

agreed. I know CWJ is still calling plays because there still have been short field situations where we go 3 and out with three straight runs up the middle.....but there have been significantly less of those.

Kiffin needs to shut down the rumor bullshite. We have a realistic shot at making the SECCG and playoffs but 2022 is fresh in my mind and the rumor mill and how he handled it destroyed our season. He needs to shut this down. I don't give a shite if he goes or not (dont think he leaves), but I do care about this season. If he shits it away like he did with our 2022 team, then I hope he does leave.
That's my biggest fear is that we shite the bed in another season because of another a-hole fanbase.
And yes, I buried this in this thread on purpose.

I'm not talking about coordinators; I'm talking about head coaches. And how Ole Miss has now for the second time turned into the SEC head coach, farm for when a top program takes a dump and they lack complete imagination, so they turn their gaze to Oxford.
Nobody wanted anything to do with Kiffin when he was at FAU. He wasn't big time enough for the likes of Florida then. Now look at them.

If Kiffin leaves I think we just grab Sumrall, who I think will be a great SEC HC. Obviously I don't want to lose Kiffin, but the program will be fine given where we currently are and our financial commitment to the program.
Posted on 10/15/25 at 10:15 pm to OleVaught14
We've only lost 1 head coach to another program, and that was Tommy Tuberville, and Ole Miss was in a really dark place as a program. People act like we are a stepping stone job, but history disproves that. I just don't want it to derail our season. This is our best chance in a very long time to make a serious run.

Our fans need to stop blowing random message board bullshittery into full blown coaching change rumors. There are no rumors. There’s just idiots on message boards and then other idiots on message boards who overreact.

Which is exactly how our 2022 season got tanked. I just don't want to see that happen again.

Same. So stop making posts about Kiffin needing to shut down rumors that don’t even exist.

This thread started out as a cool recognition for a great accomplishment into devolving immediately into who the eventual next coach will be... it's exhausting

That and our defense blew.

Was the biggest issue. We've finally (last year and this year) moved to a bend don't break defense and it's done wonders for us. Make a college offense drive the ball for 10+ plays and they are likely to make a mistake more often than not.

We went 1-5 to close the season in 2022.
Three of those six games were blowouts and weren't close.
LSU outscored us 42-3 after we jumped up 17-3.
Arkansas was up 42-6 in the third quarter.
Texas Tech was up three scores at halftime.
That season was so damn frustrating.

There are no credible rumors out there. It’s all driven by message board rumors.
