Maybe it was the plan and the staff lied.
Kind of like what happened when players said to Bjork they would all transfer if Luke wasnt named head coach. And then they did anyway after they had a huge celebration with him after he was announced.

If Carter has any fricking sense, he will not let Golding be the HC after the playoffs

I'm not ready to turn on KC yet but he has to get a handle on the situation and thread the needle to not come out of this looking like a stooge. Everyone understood what we were up against and gave him much leeway with the Lane saga but he has to get this under control or we will be in deep shite. If the boosters start to slip away it could turn into a disaster quickly.

That’s my biggest concern. Have to keep the boosters on board and keep expanding NIL. It’s hard for me to understand how they wouldn’t want to rally, but once again I’m a homer and also not strapped with a large amount of disposable income to throw at a football team. Makes sense to me how NIL would increase out of spite of Lane but maybe that’s very naive thinking

He has to backtrack on the Golding permanent HC status. The other offensive coaches leaving the day after that was announced is pretty damning.

Playoffs be damned, hiring Golding just to get the playoff check mark by our name is going to set us back for years if it’s allowed to stand. Keith’s job is to look 3-5 years down the road and not just 3-5 weeks

I don’t think anyone thinks Golding will be head coach after the playoffs barring some miracle (us winning it all). He’s a place holder or an interim without the interim tag.

But why not Joe Judge is my question? He has been a HC and Golding has said he doesn’t want to be HC. Did Judge turn it down? Was Judge waffling on staying or going with LK?

Did Carter ever actually call him the permanent head coach or was that just the beat writers?

Sometimes I regret graduating from here... Seems like we always fall down at the worst times.

Really made no sense to name him permanent HC. You make him interim with the goal of holding the staff together, retaining players and performing in the playoffs. If all of that goes well then maybe keep him as HC

Exactly this. Which is what I expected to happen and I would have been fine with. Then I start getting notifications that it’s permanent and that made no fricking sense. Which makes me think Carter made an emotional and panic hire.

Ole Miss’ NIL will go through the roof if they hire Austin Thomas back. Thomas is the architect of the 20 million LSU raised in just a couple of months to salvage our poorly managed roster. Mind you he raised that with Brian Kelly as the coach, someone the donors weren’t fond of from the beginning.

I wish Lane would forgive and forget, because everyone in the LSU athletic department loves what Thomas brings to the table. I’m hoping they make him associate athletic director but he might want to be hands on with a football program.

Everything I’ve read says he’s the head coach with no interim tag. Who knows.

Its hard not to be concerned man when it looks like the whole offensive staff if leaving the day after we were told “oh we are doubling their salaries and everyone is staying!” Which is we were going to double their salaries and they still left, that is even more damning on Carter, Golding and the program as a whole.

We are in unprecedented times with where Ole Miss is and how Lane left. It would not be crazy to do something unprecedented.

We have one game, we need to win this home playoff game. After that, it is just icing.

There is enough staff left to game plan, and these players have been practicing all season. They know what to do and are not in dire need of coaching.

Carter needs to get on the phone with every recently fired HC and make them an offer. Put a rag tag group of fired HCs out there on the practice fields as assistant coaches helping the players fine tune for 3 weeks and in the game. These guys were HCs for a reason and why they got fired is irrelevant for one game.

If we win, maybe they hang around for the most epic ESPN E60 story ever produced of Good Will vs. Evil.

Alright, I am going to have another drink. I am ready for something crazy, Last In and Last Out.

Not if boosters have no faith in the leadership.

Love him or hate him, Lane had the boosters trust to win with their money. And they donated in droves.

A guy who said 6 months ago he never wanted to be a head coach, has a mugshot after he got a DUI and wears jeans, a sweatshirt, a baseball hat with a pen sticking out of it at his first team meeting isn’t going to drive a lot of faith

They should have prepped Pete for a better speech. But I guess there was no time for it.

Exactly. An emotional, panic hire. I bet he found out 20 minutes before that meeting what was happening

I'm wondering if KC was under the impression that he basically had the staff locked up so he offers them all big raises and makes Golding HC then everyone else leaves
