I feel like I should be sounding off on this... I mean after all my name is WhistlinDixie... Even though the name came from a Randy Houser song... Regardless it appalls me that our ASB represents the 5% of students that normally aren't even from here. I'm all for progression and killing the racial stigma Ole Miss has with it but taking away traditions is too much. I'm glad the rest of the ASB didn't support the guy who proposed this so I guess I'm happy. Although this will certainly surface again

Yep, dude from South Dakota is only a sophomore. Highly doubtful he will be the one to actually get it passed though, if it ever does happen.

Oh it's bound to happen... Then it'll be "Rebels"... Then it'll be the use of "Ole Miss"

It pisses me off that I have lived in Mississippi my whole life, gone to games since before I could talk, and now attend ole miss and people like this asshat come in with no ties or connections to mississippi or ole miss and try to change things they know anything about. Someone that doesn't understand southern culture or ole miss shouldn't be allowed to tell me what a song represents or means. A 19 year old kid from the most boring place on earth should have no say in what should happens at this school.

This is a good point. At some point "progression", by removing any and all ties to the southern heritage of Ole Miss, stops being progression and simply becomes hiding. Basically we are trying to delete it from the history books so that it appears to have never happened. That is not progression.

I can definitely agree with that. At some point the line would definitely have to be drawn.
