I'm not a prognosticator. I have to see a few games before I can analyze this year's team. We are ranked in the top 10 in a couple of the polls. So there's that.

We return a lot of bats, and I mean a lot of them, from what was arguably the conference's best offense last season. 10 Rebs had 100+ ABs last year, and all 10 of them return. Furthermore, it's not just quantity, it's quality too. Of those 10 dudes, 5 of them hit over .300, and 3 of those 5 had 12+ dingers.

I hope to see McCants and Leatherwood take the next step offensively. McCants struck out a ton last season (68 K in 217 AB) and needs to tighten that up. We need his wheels on base. Leatherwood has the potential to hit .300 and 10+ dingers. But he was wildly inconsistent last season. There were series where he was unstoppable, and others where I feel he didn't get off the bus.

What remains to be seen is if Peyton Chatagnier will get out of his funk. As you recall, he was our hottest hitter to start the season, but struggled down the stretch. For instance, he went 5/35 (.142) in our final three SEC series.

I am also very excited for another season of watching Justin Bench work a count. That dude is a pitcher's worst nightmare. It is an art form, and the way he works a count reminds me a lot of Grae Kessinger in 2019. You're just not going to get one over on him. You're going to have to beat him. Bench will be a key bat for us this season.

Our offense is definitely our strength. It should be one of the best offenses in the conference.

We return a few arms. I expect Diamond, McDaniel, Dougherty, Cioffi, and Mallitz to throw a lot. They were inconsistent last season, but are definitely talented. For instance, Drew McDaniel got blasted by UGA on May 22 (5 ER and 6 H in 3.0 IP) and the shut them down five days later (6.2 IP, 0 ER, 11 K, 2 BB, 4 H). Dougherty logged some big innings for us in the regional and has elite stuff. I expect to see him to take a step forward. Cioffi should be the #1 call out of the pen.

The rotation and pen are big question marks.

Isn't he still hurt and won't be available until later in the season?

I don't think so, but I've been wrong before.

We also picked up a solid transfer pitcher Jack Washburn from Oregon State who threw for Team USA collegiate team this summer.

And we picked up another transfer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi John Gaddis All Southland Lefty with 2.25 ERA.

Not sure if we picked up anyone else or have any hyped freshman I don’t know about. The emergence of a Nikhazy, Pomeranz or Lynn type freshman pitcher would probably mean we’re making an Omaha run.

I really hope Diamond and McDaniel are a lot better than last season. If they aren't much better then we will have a lot of 13-12 type games.

There are two things that I'll never doubt Bianco to be able to do....and that's developing catchers and pitchers.

Agreed.

The bunt at the first sign of a rally is his Achilles heel.

ESPN+/SEC Network+ is well worth the money ($7/mo) for beisbol season. You'll be able to catch all but 9 of our regular season games. It's well worth it for football season to. Just do what I do and cancel it from June to Labor Day and then again from early December to February.

You still have to have some sort of provider though right? Cheapest/best I've found is Sling at $40. This is literally the only thing I use it for so I don't want to pay $60 for Youtube Red.

Yes. I already have Hulu+.

BTW, cutting the cord is now the same price as cable.

I had sling five years ago and it was $10/mo. What happened?

they jacked the price up and it's an extra $5 for the full ESPN package.

I haven't had cable in like 7 years.

The dumb thing about my situation is I get Hulu basic free along with my Spotify account but I cannot upgrade it. I would need to start a new Hulu+ account. Doing that would run me more than just getting Sling.

Also pro tip about watching ESPN games on Sling....don't ever go to the Sling app to watch them. The commercial breaks don't sync with programming so sometimes you might miss 2-4 plays during a football game from them going to break early. Go to the ESPN app and use your Sling login.

They also pre-program sporting events for 3 hours so the game just fricking ends in the 7th-8th inning almost consistently. They don't even have a way to just tune into whichever ESPN channel the game is on to trick it. frick that fricking app.

I really like YouTubeTV. $69 a month. Three simultaneous logins, unlimited DVR, games never just end on you, SEC+ and all other sports channels you could possibly want. But I agree, the streaming approach is gaining on the cable cost that I dropped three years ago.

Don’t think I could cut the cord anyway . Can’t watch sports on a delay

But my HOA fee has UVerse included so I keep the cable and movie channels.

But cord cutting isn’t much cheaper than cable if at all these days
