The rumbling rumors in Memphis is that the Tigers might part with Tubby Smith and hire Penny regardless of the job Tubby did righting the ship this year

So do we have a chance vs SC tonight? I hope we at least show up and make it a good game. I haven't watched any Bball games in the almost a month. I'll watch tonight, because its probably our last game this year.

Why don’t we only shot 3’s. Just jack it up. No driving the lane.

Yes, let’s hire a State grad who’s 5 years past when he should’ve been hired into the conference and who’s conference experience all came at LSU. This move has Chancellor Gumballs written all over it. Like, both State and LSU passed over Kermit despite the fact that he’s more than proven he can win at MTSU. I don’t know why we’d hire a guy with much stronger ties to our rivals than to us who was also not hired by said rivals while both conducted coaching searches

You mean Vitter and Bjork are going to screw the pooch on another coaching hire? I’m shocked.

I don't understand. There must be more to this whole coaching hire thing than meets the eye. If I'm sitting there with a war chest full of very competitive contract money where the going rate is concerned, a still basically brand new state of the art playing facility, a likewise practice facility, a wonderful campus, a very good school if you do what you are supposed to, all surrounded by one of the best college towns in all of the country why is it difficult to make a very competent hire? Or possibly we're just all in too damn big of a hurry.

I don’t know. Throw everything at Matta. Kermit Davis will be the same as Kennedy. 20 win seasons with a tourney here or there.

I think you said what many are thinking. I think some may be trying to rush the hire. I say wait until both tournaments are over and look then. Well not look, but have targets in mind and have their agents know we are wanting so and so. Unless they already have who they want and their season is over like ours.

I just don’t see why we can’t get at least a good up an comer that is young and a go getter. A lot of the other schools will always say we can’t make a decent hire in basketball but we have everything a good coach would need. We just need the right people higher up in the right positions to make a good decision. And I’m not sure we have that in place.

I noticed Mississippi Southern upset MTSU last night. Could the coaches mind already be checked out and could this mean something where we are concerned?

Supposedly for Matta to continue receiving his buyout, he has to demonstrate he’s actively interviewing or something

They both hired coaches with “recruiting connections” and will probably be under the gun for it in short order. There are already rumblings about LSU.

I’m not thrilled about the hire either BTW FWIW LOL. Definitely a chancellor gumballs “let’s get a shittier version of what we already had” kind of move.

I’ve come to accept quiet disappointment with the coaching search. We don’t have the balls to go after someone unproven like Penny Hardaway, and we don’t have the balls to bank someone like Matta or Crean. We have a beautiful building and decent facilities elsewhere, but’s instead of using that as an impetus to get more aggressive in basketball, we’re using the facilities as some laurel to rest on so we can hire some guy who reportedly wanted both the State job Andy LSU job and got neither. I don’t get why we pretend to get serious by building the Pavilion, Tuohy Center, and renovating Gillom, but we wouldn’t give AK a real operating budget and it doesn’t look like we’re going to make a splash with the hire
