I didn't want to start a new thread to ask this question.
How much do you all think having a deep ball threat opens up the running game this year? Lets be honest Bo couldn't throw the ball 20+ yards with out it sitting in the air way to long, the safeties started to cheat and it hurt the running game. Chad has a cannon and seems to be really accurate with the deep ball. Can we protect him long enough to throw it or would it even matter because he would be tackled before he could get it done? I would like to see what yalls thoughts on the matter are.

Our pass protection was actually decent last year. Bo took some sacks that he shouldn't have.

Pass protection wasn't the problem. As has been mentioned in various podcast when you run the ball to a certain area over 200 times for 300 yards the problem is two fold. 1. The players suck at those particular plays. 2. The coaches suck for continuing to run those plays that any idiot can look into and realize doesn't work. If running to the outside was our strength why continue trying to pund it inside? There is keeping a defense honest, and there is just not adjusting. Staff didn't adjust at all last year in the running game.

Having the deep threat will help a lot. Even if they aren't connecting, if the safety has Attaboy running a go route he has to honor it. Last year that wasn't the case cause he knew the qb couldn't get it there.

I think so too. Just think with our WR depth we can run go route after go route.

Running up the middle even for small gains can bring the linebackers closer in to the middle which helps out with creating space for the screen pass.

When have we ever landed an in-state prospect that had interest in Alabama in their junior years

How did everyone miss out on the sarcasm here.

Benito Jones' recruitment all over again by the way... Except because he's from Clinton he ends up in Starkville instead.

Drake Davis confirms that we hold a lead over LSU and A&M. Do work, Shea.

Drake's wearing a Ole Miss hat in all the Instagram pics that Shea posts.

Oh I agree, my point was I'm not sure nearly 300 rushes for 300 yards you probably need to stop running said plays.

Best quote from your article:
quote:

Of the five SEC programs Gary is reportedly looking at — Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss, only LSU and Ole Miss have a base defense of four down linemen. Alabama, Georgia and now Auburn run more 3-4 than 4-3. Now, LSU will implement some 3-4 under new defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who came from Alabama. The Rebels run a 4-2-5 base defense, which features four down linemen.

Also I enjoyed this interview aside from Lsu favoritism

Rashan Gary interview

Seems like a very intelligent young man.
Would really love to have him.
He mentions Lsu, Georgia auburn and us as the top contenders, and we run a defense where he gets to shine causing havoc. With the secondary shutting things down.

Hope to have him and his mom on campus for an Official

Also enjoyed this interview of recent commit don'ta Evans on scout

Talking about Xs and Os and his recruitment

Sounds like he could lead a defense on the field..

EJ Price has us listed in his top 8

He's also a teammate of Donta Evans who, according to the podcast listed above, is someone who wants to be an extension of the coaches when it comes to recruiting

Like the past three years if they visit we've got a great shot at landing them. If we land two of Price, Little, or Allen then it's the best class we've ever signed before counting any of the other players left on our board.

It may just be wishful thinking, but I really like where we stand with Little... He knows he has potential for immediate playing time, we have his teammate on board, and frick it's Ole Miss

If we can just get them here for the big recruiting weekend, we have as good a shot as anybody

It's not just wishful thinking. They are oddly confident in where we are with Little. Now of course it's still really early but that's encouraging.

The "and it's ole miss" part makes no sense when talking about an OM/ Bama battle

Would we move Mathews inside or use him as a swing tackle for depth a la a rich man's Conyers?
